The manhunt for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, has stretched to its 21st day, and it looks like the investigators have reached a breakthrough about the potential suspect. With numerous speculations and limited leads, officials have identified a resident of Nancy's Tucson locality who reportedly matches the masked suspect's description. It turns out that he has also been missing for roughly the same amount of time.
Who is this new person of interest in Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping case?
While the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI are providing limited information about Nancy Guthrie's alleged abduction, law enforcement sources say that both departments are now cross-checking the recent missing persons reports and comparing them with the physical description of the masked individual captured on the doorbell camera of Nancy's Catalina Foothills home.

From what has been confirmed based on the doorbell camera footage, the suspect is a white male with a height of approximately 5'9" to 5'10". He has an average build and visible facial hair, including a mustache and possibly a goatee. It has also been confirmed that the suspect was wearing an Ozark Trail backpack and what authorities identified as an Athletic Works Fusion Knit jacket. Officials believe he may have been armed with a semi-automatic handgun.
As the search for Nancy nears its third week, the investigators have reportedly changed their strategy after the DNA found in and around the crime scene, including an insulated glove, didn't match the national criminal records. Officials now believe the suspect likely resides, or at least resided, in the Tucson locality itself. By identifying a local man who disappeared around the same time as Nancy Guthrie, authorities are hoping to narrow the field significantly. However, the potential person of interest has not been traced yet.
Officials are reviewing more than 20 persons of interest in Nancy Guthrie's abduction
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her Catalina Foothills home in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, 2026, and the search for her is now nearing its third week. As public theories and tips continue to pour in, authorities are no longer ruling out the possibility that the 84-year-old may have been taken across the border, potentially into Mexico or another country. The FBI has formally contacted Mexican federal authorities as part of the effort to locate the mother of Savannah, Annie, and Camron Guthrie.

Federal agents are reportedly reviewing more than 20 individuals whose photos resemble the masked figure. Image packets have been circulated to local gun shops and retailers in an effort to cross-reference recent purchases. However, no arrests have been formally made. Earlier, the cops detained two individuals, Kayla Noel Day and Luke Daley, but the latter's connection to the case could not be established. Sheriff Chris Nanos has publicly cleared the Guthrie family, emphasising that speculation against relatives is unfounded. Officials stress that being listed as a person of interest does not imply guilt.
Investigators have confirmed they are examining newly uncovered “biological evidence” collected during a follow-up search of Nancy’s home. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said forensic analysis is currently in progress, though they have not specified what the evidence consists of. Earlier, DNA recovered from a glove found several miles away failed to produce a match in the CODIS database. Authorities are now preparing to use investigative genetic genealogy (IGG) in hopes of closing in on the suspect(s).
New information about the suspect?
Recently, a private investigator claimed to have noticed some distinctive features in the suspect's walk based on the doorbell camera footage. He alleged that the man's movement of his left arm doesn't seem natural, possibly suggesting an injury. However, the authorities have yet to confirm this observation. On X, the investigator addressed the suspect's family:
"If you’re his mom, his brother, his girlfriend, his dad, and you saw that surveillance, you know it’s him. His features are distinctive. The distinct facial features, the teeth, the way he never swings his left arm when he walks like he's injured, the way his left hand doesn't seem to have full function, like he's been in a recent accident. You know he’s the monster among us."
