Amid the growing buzz, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Rocco Gagliardi told the media that Royce Moser and Karoline Heintz met up on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, to discuss the future of their relationship. However, the conversation about their future soon escalated into an altercation during which Royce Moser fatally stabbed his girlfriend. According to reports, DA Jason Walsh described the incident as a "domestic situation".
Nonetheless, he has not issued any clarification on what exactly led to the fatal altercation between the young couple. According to the police, Royce Moser's mother, Rachel Moser, allegedly came to the scene after the death and helped her son to dispose of Karoline Heintz's body and clean up the crime scene.

Talking about how the investigation into Karoline Heintz's murder began, her family, who live in nearby McMurray, called the police after the 18-year-old did not check in with them. According to reports, Karoline had told her family that she would return from Royce's place later on Wednesday evening.
However, when there was no update from her, the family contacted the cops. PennWest California released a statement on the death of Karoline Heintz, who they identified as a first-year student and a member of the college's soccer team. The statement read:
"PennWest University is deeply saddened by the tragic death of Karoline Heintz, who was a first-year student at the California campus. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and all those affected by this tragedy."
