Even before the couple tied the knot on December 4, 2024, they had been under intense public scrutiny for their low-key romance and Naga's controversial split from his ex-spouse, Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Currently, amid Samantha's pregnancy, rumours are rife that her ex, Naga Chaitanya and his current wife, Sobhita Dhulipala are also expecting. Amid that, details of Naga's past baby planning with his ex-wife Samantha resurfaced.
Actress, Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been vocal about her desire for motherhood; however, she and Naga Chaitanya didn't have any kids during their four years of marriage. But reports suggest that she and Naga were planning a baby shortly after their wedding. Back in 2018, a few months after their wedding, the Maa Inti Bangaaram actress was asked about family planning during an interview with Film Companion.
At that time, Samantha jovially said that she and Naga Chaitanya had already fixed a date for their baby's arrival. She revealed that they had a particular time period in mind as to when they wanted to be parents. Although things don't always work out as planned, Naga was optimistic that he and Samantha Ruth Prabhu would have the baby during the time they had planned. Opening up about the same, the actress humorously stated:
"The date [for welcoming the baby] has been fixed! Like, as if that's going to happen according to the date we have fixed! But Chay [Naga Chaitanya] seems to be certain that it will happen on the assigned date! But we have definitely fixed the timeline as to when we want to have a baby."
Although Samantha Ruth Prabhu at that time didn't share when she and her then-husband planned to embrace parenthood, a few years later, the secret was reportedly out. Shortly after Samantha and Naga's divorce announcement in 2021, producer Neelima Guna revealed that Samantha was planning to become a mother in that year itself.
According to Neelima, when she approached Samantha with a film offer, the actress was excited; however, she set a condition for signing the project. She wanted the shooting to wrap up by July-August 2025, as she wanted to become a mother during then. Neelima said:
"Last year itself, when my father, director Gunasekhar garu and I approached Samantha for Shaakuntalam, she loved the story and was very excited by it, but she told us that if she were to accept the role, the shooting should be completed by maximum July/August this year. She informed me that she was planning to start a family and that she wants to become a mother and that it would be her priority."
In the same interview, Neelima Guna shared that when she and the entire team assured Samantha they would complete the shoot by July/August of 2021, the actress was on board. According to Neelima, Samantha would take a long break after the film to have a baby. Her exact words were:
"As soon as she heard that, she was very happy and onboard this. She told me that this would be her last film and that after this, she wants to take a long break and have children, plan her family. Through the schedules also, we never took a break since we wanted to accommodate this request from her side."
