The incident took place in the early morning of January 1, 2021, when the Cherokee Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from Rodney Metzer. According to an August 2021 release from the Office of the District Attorney for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit in Canton, Georgia, during the call, Rodney told the 911 responder that he had driven to his ex-wife's house and discovered her tied up on her deck after having been assaulted.
Morgan Metzer met her ex-husband, Rodney Metzer, when she was 14 years old, and he was 17. Their romance blossomed over the years, and the couple tied the knot in 2009 when Morgan turned 21. However, a series of family tragedies, including the loss of his brother to leukaemia and the loss of their first child to a heart defect, changed Rodney for the worse. In 2012, Morgan gave birth to twins, but soon after, Rodney lost his job, which further made him more abusive, both emotionally and physically.
