Maren Morris just announced the 2026 dates for her 'Dreamsicle' tour, which features songs she wrote about her ex-husband, Ryan Hurd. Amid this, let's take a look at their relationship over the years.
Maren Morris is one of the top American singer-songwriters when it comes to the country pop genre. She made her debut in 2005 with Walk On but rose to fame later with her Grammy-winning song, My Church in 2016. Since then, she has not had to look back and has given us a number of hits like The Middle, The Bones, Chasing After You, and Craving You, among others. Her most recent album, titled Dreamsicle, was released on May 9, 2025. Recently, after a successful 40-date tour last year, Maren left her fans pleasantly surprised when she announced she would kick off a fresh 12-date leg in 2026, starting in Nashville on April 15 and concluding in Dallas on May 3.
For the unversed, Maren's Dreamsicle album is her first release following her divorce from her then-husband, Ryan Hurd. We can definitely confirm that some of the songs on her album refer to the aftermath of her divorce from Ryan. The duo had tied the knot in March 2018 after knowing each other for years. If you are interested in learning more about their relationship, here's everything we know from start to finish.
It's a known fact among her fans that Maren Morris is a Nashville-based singer. It was after she moved here that she connected with Ryan Hurd during a songwriting session. Reportedly, this 2013 session later turned out to be for Tim McGraw's song, Last Turn Home. According to Maren, her first meeting with Ryan happened because their publishers “randomly put us together on a write one day,” even though they belonged to separate publishing companies at the time.
Thankfully, Tim's song was the start of a “wonderful writing relationship” between both Maren and Ryan. The singer has often mentioned that, among all the songs the duo has worked on together, Last Turn Home is one of her favourites. Furthermore, Maren revealed that over the years, the song had come to mean much more to her and Ryan.
Although Maren and Ryan met in 2013, their relationship did not turn romantic until two years later. According to reports, the songwriting duo started dating in December 2015. In an interview, Maren said that their relationship evolved from friends to lovers over the span of years because “there was always this writing chemistry in the room.” According to her, the foundation that she and Ryan had built off so many songs was so strong that avoiding a romantic relationship would not be the most sensible idea.
A couple of months after they started dating, Maren and Ryan made sure that everybody knew they were together by making their red carpet debut as a couple. They were seen posing happily side by side happily at the 2016 CMT Awards, where Maren was nominated for two awards – Female Video of the Year and Breakthrough Video of the Year.
On July 9, 2017, Maren Morris shocked her fans by getting engaged to Ryan Hurd just a year after walking their red carpet debut. At the time, the singer took to her official Instagram account to share the exciting news. She posted a carousel of photos proudly showing off the ring on her finger. Additionally, since the post was pretty self-explanatory, Maren kept its caption nice and short by simply writing, “Yes,” followed by a ring emoji.
Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd got married on March 24, 2018, at the Cordelle in Nashville. Interestingly, Maren later revealed that she and her husband wrote their vows in a bar before the wedding. This is because she wanted their vows to be sincere yet lighthearted in nature. While appearing on The Bobby Bones Show, Maren said:
"I tried to do a mix of really sentimental and obviously a mix of promising him all these things that I will do for him throughout our life together, but I also wanted to add some levity. So I said like, 'I'll put up with you constantly watching sports, and you put up with me relentlessly watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.'"
Coming to Maren and Ryan Hurd's first dance, their choice of song for the occasion was singer, Ashley Monroe's Has Anybody Ever Told You. The music duo revealed that they chose this song specifically in an effort to “get a little outside the box.”
Maren Morris and Ryan's family grew in number when the singer announced that she was pregnant with her first child on October 22, 2019. She shared the happy news by posting an adorable maternity photoshoot featuring herself and her hubby. Following her pregnancy, Maren even skipped the Grammy Awards to spend some quality time, which fans call the ‘babymoon’ with Ryan Hurd at the Blackberry Farm in Walland, Tennessee.
Eventually, after months of waiting, Maren and Ryan welcomed their little bundle of joy, a baby boy, on March 23, 2020. Calling him the “love of our lives,” the couple named their newborn Hayes Andrew Hurd. Their baby's name becomes even more special and thoughtful when one realizes the meaning behind it. Apparently, Maren and Ryan's son's middle name honours the latter's late brother, who passed away at the age of 16 due to an unfortunate car accident.
2023 was a big year for both Maren and Ryan. While they had known each other for nearly a decade at this point, on March 25, 2023, Maren and Ryan celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary. Ryan even took to Instagram on the day and shared a snap of one of their framed wedding pictures on a wall in their house. His sweet caption read:
"Favorite picture in our house. Happy 5 years, MM. Lots of music, lots of places, lots of great times and a baby. It’s been the greatest. Blessings to each and every one of you. Give your person a big hug and tell ‘em you love them today."
Fast-forward to October of the same year: in a shocking turn of events, Maren filed for divorce from Ryan, citing “irreconcilable differences”. After reaching a settlement, their divorce was finalised by a judge on January 30, 2024.
