His good looks and mannerisms caught attention on social media, and people heaped praise on him. The young officer, also called the ‘national crush’, recently took premature retirement after just 12 years of service.
Rishabh Sambyal has been President Droupadi Murmu’s shadow ever since he took charge as her Aide-de-Camp. Rishabh recently sat down with Raj Shamani on his podcast, Figuring Out, and spoke about various aspects of his job. During the conversation, the host, Raj, asked Rishabh about his bond with President Murmu, which looks more like a mother-son connection.
Rishabh revealed that he felt very comfortable with President Murmu. Elaborating on his feelings when he met her for the first time, Rishabh shared:
“The first time I met the President, it felt like my mother was standing in front of me. Since 2014, I've never lived with my mom. I always used to go back home for a couple of days, live with her, and then again bye-bye for the next six or seven months, and then see her after six months.”
In the same conversation, Rishabh revealed that he spent his entire three-year tenure with the President. The warmth she shared with him and the other ADCs made their bond special. Speaking about the same, Major Rishabh said:
“The nature she has was very homely. And I just built a connection. I always felt comfortable with her, talking to her and understanding her. And the warmth which she showed upon us, to me and to all the ADCs, was wonderful. And it used to make me miss my mom. Nobody has taught me to hold the umbrella for the president, but it was a natural instinct, as I would do it for my mother. The more time I spent with her, I used to adore her.”
During the conversation, Raj asked Rishabh why he was retiring if he enjoyed his job so much. To this, Rishabh shared that he, as a son in his family, has some responsibilities. Rishabh was visibly emotional while speaking about his retirement and said that as a child, he always wanted to wear a uniform, and it was his dream.
While wearing the uniform was his dream, Rishabh admitted that he had to make the difficult decision for the people who brought him into the world. He spoke about his responsibility as a son, as there were some commitments that he needed to fulfill. While he loved his job, he had to make a sacrifice and choose. In the conversation, Rishabh also revealed that he was in a situation where he had to make a decision for himself and for his parents, and he didn’t want to be a selfish man.
