Marissa Mayer gets major backlash for using AI to describe her own daughter
Recently, Marissa, during an interview, talked about a new tech startup named Dazzle. She narrated an incident and how the AI assistant helped within seconds. She revealed that she was struggling to find three bullet points about her daughter. It was homework given to her nine-year-old daughter, in which the teacher asked her to write three bullet points about her.
When Marissa got stuck, she turned to Dazzle, and the tool quickly gave her information about her own daughter and described her as 'empathetic, creative, and an animal lover.' However, this went viral, and netizens slammed Marissa for not knowing her own daughter, who is just nine years old.

Many judged her parenting skills as Marissa claimed that Dazzle is for busy women whom she hopes will use the AI assistant. It is her first startup venture into the AI personal assistance domain. Marissa revealed that she uses AI for almost everything, including family activities during a trip, organizing a play date for one of her daughters, and choosing a theme for her son's birthday party.
As soon as the interview surfaced, netizens expressed shock at Marissa using AI to describe her own daughter's characteristics. One user on X wrote a long message, starting by saying that he has no right to judge anyone's parenting skills. The user also added that there is a difference between using AI to help organize things and then writing special qualities about your child.
He mentioned that it was a personal question and Marissa might have known the answer, but she outsourced it, and the three qualities can describe many kids around the world.
Maybe Marissa Mayer already knew all three things about her daughter. That's not the point. The point is that she was asked to identify what makes her daughter special, and she outsourced the answer to AI. The user concluded the post by writing:
"And if you think this is a story that reflects well on you as a parent, let alone one worth proudly sharing with the world, you are clearly untethered from reality."

Soon, netizens shared their thoughts. One user on X wrote, "It’s the struggling with an impossible task part that gets me- how does she think her daughter will feel reading this one day. This Mayer sounds like one of those parents who leaves raising their kids to the nanny, cos many things are difficult as a parent; this isn’t one of them."
A second one commented, "Bleak and sad for that family--and for what society is becoming. I've got two toddler boys; I could tell you in a heartbeat what's special about them, what I love and what impresses me about them." A third one penned, "The AI’s answer could describe anyone’s kid literally. That’s sad to me. I use AI for a lot of things as a parent, but I’d never outsource answering 'Why is my kid awesome?' You should already know the answer and be able to describe what makes your kid special in terms that aren’t so generic."
