In a now viral TikTok video, Mackenzie Shirilla was seen boasting about her tolerance to drugs before she killed her boyfriend in a 100-mph crash.
Mackenzie Shirilla is once again trending all over the internet ever since Netflix aired The Crash, documenting the harrowing 'Hell on Wheels' case of Ohio on May 15, 2026. For the unversed, Shirilla was convicted of murdering her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and his friend, Davion Flanagan, 19, in 2022 after ramming her car into a building at 100 miles per hour.
Amid Shirilla’s case, a chilling TikTok video of hers surfaced in which the Ohio teenager was seen bragging about her tolerance for drugs. Shirilla posted a video in which she boasts about her feelings of immortality, while enacting the audio clip, which said:
“I’m not even cool I’m just one of those girls that can do a lot of drugs and not die.”
On July 31, 2022, then-17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla was driving a Toyota Camry through Strongsville, Ohio, with her boyfriend, 20-year-old Dominic Russo, and their friend, 19-year-old Davion Flanagan. According to reports, Shirilla was driving Dom and Davion from a friend's house early in the morning when she crashed the car into a commercial building. Reports suggest that she was driving 100 miles per hour, and the crash took the lives of both Dom and Davion, although she herself survived.
After a toxicology test was conducted, it was revealed that the 17-year-old had no alcohol in her system. This prompted the police to begin investigating the case as murder. The prosecution used the teen's persona as an influencer as criminal evidence in court that she intentionally murdered her boyfriend and his friend. Investigators cited the absence of skid marks or signs of braking attempts as evidence and argued that the crash was deliberate.
Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim Troup told the court that the teen wanted to murder Russo after their months-long fling fizzled out. Flanagan, who was just looking for a ride home, was just innocent “cargo”. Ultimately, Judge Nancy Margaret Russo also concluded that the car crash was premeditated. Mackenzie was found guilty of 12 felony charges, including two counts of murder.
Mackenzie Shirilla is serving her 15-to-life imprisonment sentence. She was sentenced to two concurrent life terms, with the first parole hearing slated for 2037, nearly 14 years after she was given a 15-to-life sentence on August 31, 2023. In Netflix's The Crash, viewers get to see Mackenzie's first-ever interview from prison. To mention, the interview was held in the presence of her lawyer, who remained off-camera. When she was asked why she agreed to do the interview, Mackenzie said:
“I’ve never spoke before, and I’ve never told my side of the story. I understand there’s many different sides to the story and different perspectives, but I just wanna say my truth. I just know myself, and I know I’m not a monster.”
Mackenzie has always said the crash wasn’t intentional. In the Netflix doc, she says she doesn’t remember the crash and suggests a medical condition could have played a role. Her legal team has said in the past that she experienced POTS, or Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, which can cause episodes of dizziness and passing out.
