Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleActress Hayden Panettiere passed away on August 16, 2026, leaving her close family and industry colleagues heartbroken. She was just 36 at the time of her demise. Hayden's untimely death sparked nationwide debate on the grooming of child stars, mistreatment by industry seniors, and the need for a healthy upbringing. Amid that, her mother, Lesley Vogel's interview about her resurfaced, where she denied subjecting her daughter to immense pressure and abuse.
Hayden Panettiere and her mother, Lesley Vogel didn't share an amicable relationship. They were estranged for years, which the Nashville alum documented in her tell-all memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning. In the months leading up to Hayden's demise, Lesley publicly called her daughter out for her alleged wrongful portrayal in her book. Hayden wrote in her book that her mother coerced her into acting at a tender age and that she always had to act according to Lesley's wishes.
Refuting those claims, Lesley Vogel stated that she never pressured her daughter into a career in show business. Lesley told the Daily Mail that she never coerced Hayden into becoming a child actor or doing anything that she was not comfortable with. She argued that it was logically impossible for someone to make an infant aged two to five years do something against their wishes.
The 70-year-old stated that the rumors about her being an unreasonable mother who would force her kid to act according to her wishes were absolutely untrue. She slammed the online gossip mongers and further stated that the claims her daughter made regarding always having to please her were also false. Sharing that she was strong and opinionated but never "abusive", Lesley Vogel stated:
"I was strong, definitely, but I was not abusive by any stretch of the imagination...I know that she has mentioned, you know, [that she] 'always had to please Mom'...Try making a 2-to-5-year-old child do something they don't want to do. Are you going to be successful? No, you're not."
Hayden Panettiere began her career in the entertainment industry at just 11 months old, appearing in various commercials. Lesley Vogel was her guide and momager. Recalling those days, she explained that she intended to allow her daughter to be financially independent and earn money for her college fund. Lesley further revealed that she never expected Hayden, who started with small commercial ad gigs, to become a professional actress.
Months before her death, Hayden stated that she and her mother "don't have a relationship" anymore, but she was open to reconciliation. However, her mom might have had a different opinion, as she mentioned during an interview with Page Six that her daughter had caused her "20 years of trauma" and it had led her to cut all ties with her.
Hayden Panettiere's mother slammed her daughter's alleged "self-destructive" lifestyle. She claimed that it was "painful" for her to witness as a parent, as she only wanted the best for her child. Lesley Vogel further stated that not just she, but many parents of celebrities faced similar issues. She wished nobody had to watch their kids go down the wrong path or choose a livelihood that constantly worried them. Her exact words were:
"After 20 years of trauma, I took the advice of professionals and chose the no-contact route. As many parents of entertainment children [know], we are all too familiar with the painful observation of watching the self-destructive paths they sometimes choose. No parent hopes for this scenario; we want our children to be the best of themselves and live a peaceful, joyful life!"
