Chappell Roan turned every head at the 2026 Grammy red carpet with her daring sheer gown. However, did you know this is not the only time she has made the internet lose its mind?
Chappell Roan made a stunning return to the 2026 Grammy Awards and left the internet on fire, rocking a 'naked' dress. The singer who took home Best New Artist in 2025 returned in a sheer burdundy hooded gown by Murgler, before undoing it and revealing two strategically placed rings on her breasts, which held the remainder of the dress.
While the diva has left the internet shocked by her appearance on the red carpet, it's not a surprise to fans. For the unversed, Chappell Roan is known for her unique style and her often controversial statements. So, as the singer once again makes the netizens go blue, let us take a look at her past controversies.
Chappell Roan rose to fame in the summer of 2024. However, like most celebrities, she also faced challenging situations, including obsessive fans. Roan soon enough learned the downside of fame: stalkers, online bullying, and constant attention. The singer decided to address these in a few blunt TikToks and set some boundaries with fans. However, her words seemed to have created a contrasting impact than what she alleged. Roan took to her social media account and shared that she was just a "random b*tch".
She added that she doesn't "give a f*ck" that "abuse and harassment and stalking is a normal thing to do" to famous people, and "that does not make it okay". While some fans came to her support, others found her approach hurtful, claiming that it "came with the territory". Nonetheless, while it started a war between her and her fans, Chappell Roan has remained stern about her boundaries. She was quoted as saying:
"I don't give a f*ck if you think it's selfish of me to say no to a photo, for your time, or for a hug. That’s not normal! That's weird!"
Another time when Chappell Roan made headlines was when she refused to endorse Kamala Harris during the 2024 elections. The situation got bad enough that Roan had to cancel her All Things Go set. For the unversed, the singer refused to endorse Harris and made vague "both sides are bad" comments, which further escalated the situation. While she is left-leaning, her comments about the political world have often drawn criticism from netizens. In September 2024, Chappell spoke with The Guardian and said:
"I have so many issues with our government in every way. There are so many things that I would want to change. So I don't feel pressured to endorse someone. There are problems on both sides."
One would think that would be the end of it. Unfortunately, it wasn't. After a wave of backlash, Chappell Roan ranted on TikTok that she was "voting for f**king Kamala", while pronouncing the former VP's name totally wrong. While she admitted that one's "vision" was better than the other's, she refused to settle down and said:
"But I'm not settling for what has been offered. F*ck the policies on the right, but f*ck some of the policies on the left. There is no way I can stand behind some of the left's completely transphobic and completely g*nocidal views."
After butting heads with fans and politicians, Chappell Roan faced the wrath of moms during her appearance on Call Her Daddy. The singer apparently made some very insensitive comments, saying, "All of my friends who have kids are in hell". Additionally, Roan, when asked about getting married and having kids of her own one day, said, "I actually don't know anyone who's like happy and has children at this age." The singer claimed that her mom friends had no "light in their eyes" and don't sleep. The comment made some not-miserable young moms very offended.
However, that was not the only comment from the show that left the internet agitated. Chappell Roan further argued that pop stars don't have time to be politically educated. "How can these girls tour, write, perform, interview, sleep, eat, and f**king work out? AND be f**king…so politically educated?" People were quick to make fun of that comment on X (formerly Twitter) because a schedule of singing, talking, eating, and sleeping doesn't sound too bad. Fans alleged that they work full-time jobs, make time for their families and loved ones, and still find time to stay informed about what's happening around the world.
Chappell Roan further called keeping herself informed about politics an "impossible" task and claimed that her fans should not look up to her for a "political answer" as she is a pop star who can only wish she "had the answers." The comment didn't sit well with the fans, as much of Roan's brand is based on activism for trans and Palestinian people. Fans called the singer out for having millions of followers and the power to influence, yet refusing to use her resources to speak up, especially when people around the world are being stripped of their rights.
