Barry Keoghan has finally put to rest months of social media commentary about his changed appearance. He admitted that he had work done on his face to achieve a youthful look. The 34-year-old Saltburn star shared that he underwent two non-invasive, high-tech XERF skin-tightening treatments. For the unversed, XERF is designed to 'lift and firm the face' without surgery or injections.
In an Instagram reel shared by celebrity skin specialist Nilam Holmes, Barry Keoghan is seen lying on a treatment bed in a clinic, wearing a white headband as the medical professional moves a handheld device across his cheeks, around his nose, and along his jawline. In the video, the former boyfriend of Sabrina Carpenter stated that he had heard about the cosmetic treatment and knew what he was getting into.
Barry Keoghan praised Nilam Holmes, saying she was "brilliant" at her job and that he had previously had skin treatment sessions with her. The actor shared that the medical professional took care of his skin and it was a "relaxing and therapeutic" experience for him. Barry added that he looked and felt better about himself after undergoing non-surgical XERF treatments. In his words:
"I've been hearing a lot about [XERF], and Nilam is very excited about it. And she's brilliant at what she does. I really mean that. Every time I come in, it's very relaxing and therapeutic. Nilam looks after my skin. I feel better about myself. I look better. I think it's important to look after yourself inside and outside."
According to the Daily Mail, the cosmetic procedure Barry Keoghan underwent was loved by other celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Naomi Watts as well. The report added that the treatment could cost up to 4,500 pound sterling (USD 6,003.61). As for the kind of treatment XERF is, the company said that it is a monopolar radiofrequency treatment that delivers thermal energy deep into the skin to tighten it from the inside out.
The procedure has zero downtime and results can last up to a year. The treatment not only made Barry feel externally radiant and youthful, but also boosted his confidence in his looks.
Barry has faced trolling for his height as well as for his looks. In February, one X (formerly Twitter) user mocked him, calling him "Oliver Twist after stealing a gua sha." Another responded, "He looks like [Jonathan Taylor Thomas] but remove the buccal fat and got a lip flip." The actor opened up on the mean comments, claiming, "It's becoming a problem."
During his March 2026 appearance on Sirius XM's The Morning Mash Up, Barry stated, "There's a lot of abuse of how I look, and it's kind of past the point of - you know, everyone goes through that…but it's made me shy away." He added, "It's made me really go inside myself, not want to attend places, not want to go outside."
