Bad Bunny is leading the headlines for his historic Super Bowl halftime performance. But do you know the Puerto Rican artist won't be paid for his performance?
American rapper and singer, Bad Bunny, is leading the headlines currently for his much-awaited performance at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. The rapper has been preparing for it for the past few months, and it is one of the biggest opportunities of his career. But do you know, he won’t be paid a single penny for his historic performance? Read on to know the reason behind it.
The NFL is a platform where artists can showcase their talent to the entire world. It is one of the biggest platforms for them to get exposure and reap the benefits. The 12–15-minute performance becomes one of the most-watched TV broadcasts of the year. The event has seen many leading names from the entertainment industry like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, and many others make a poignant mark with their performance.
As per Reuters, the NFL doesn’t pay the artists performing at the Super Bowl Halftime show, but they do cover the travel and other expenses. NFL spokesperson, Joanna Hunter told Forbes about the same and revealed:
“We do not pay the artists and are rather paid in a union scale. The halftime show at the Super Bowl remains a highly coveted spot for many artists. Some of those artists do not see their appearance as a political statement, nor do they see the show as a cultural battleground, but rather view their live performance as an opportunity to entertain an enthusiastic crowd and to share their music and their talent with millions of viewers.”
Bad Bunny is not the only artist who didn’t get paid during the Super Bowl Halftime Show. In fact, previously, some of the artists like Rihanna, Coldplay, and Katy Perry were asked to pay for the chance they got to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime. While Perry agreed to perform but refused to pay any money. Speaking about the same, she told Forbes:
“I don't want an asterisk by my name for playing the Super Bowl for the rest of my life. I want to be able to say I played the Super Bowl based on my talents and my merit, thank you very much."
In addition to the halftime show, the Super Bowl features other performances at the start of the game. According to reports, the star-powered lineup is rounded out by Green Day, who kicked off the Super Bowl with a special performance during the opening ceremony. However, like the halftime show performer, none of them will be paid outside of union wages.
