On his 14th birthday, Dino gifted Alex a go-kart from a motorcycle shop owned by his old friend, Alberto Bonini. As time passed, Alex fell in love with karts, and by the end of 1987, he had won three Italian go-kart titles and the European championship.
Dino and Anna had two children, a daughter, Cristina Zanardi and a son, Alex Zanardi. However, tragedy struck hard when Alex was 13. Cristina tragically passed away in a car accident.
