Why Is Sumit Singh Asking For Money? '90 Day Fiance' Star Speaks Out Amid Jenny Slatten's ALS Battle

Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh are one of the most famous reality TV couples, who spent several years sharing their unconventional love story. While fans enjoy their banter, chemistry and dramatic family moments, the duo are now facing one of the biggest challenges of their lives. Jenny was diagnosed with a progressive disease, and Sumit has now requested their fans for help to make his wife's life easy in India.

Sumit Singh explains why they are asking for financial help 

Sumit Singh shared a message on his Instagram handle on June 22, 2026. In the message, he asked the supporters to help him and Jenny with their donations in the form of Cameo bookings or paid requests. Needless to say, the post quickly went viral and sparked discussions over the couple's request. In turn, Sumit later made a video to address the doubts and criticism over his request for financial support. He explained that the financial assistance would enable them to cover the costs associated with Jenny's condition and their current living situation in India. In Sumit's words:

"I'm trying to make her life as easy as possible. Jenny can't travel alone, and it's not easy to travel that long. It's also not easy for me to get a Visa. I'm not at that point where I could choose whether I want to travel or not."

He explained that although they can stay and get treatment for Jenny in both India and the United States, treatment in the United States is more expensive. At the same time, accessing treatment is more complex in Western countries than in India. They had to consider this amid Jenny's progressing ALS diagnosis. Meanwhile, Jenny added that she does not have health insurance coverage in India. In turn, it is difficult for them to manage expenses in India. The fundraising effort by Sumit also brought questions from fans about why Jenny is not living with her family in the United States. 

In response, Sumit mentioned that Jenny's daughters have their individual families and responsibilities. At the same time, Jenny added that it was a personal decision because she did not want to be a burden on someone. Later, one of Jenny's daughters commented on the video and reassured that her mother would never be a burden on her. On the other hand, Sumit defended his decision to ask for money and explained that although money cannot cure ALS, it can help make Jenny's life more manageable and reduce her stress. Offering her support, Jenny's daughter penned:

"Mom, please know you are never a burden. I would love to have you here, and that's what we children are for, but I know you won't be happy, and you want to be with your husband. I get it 100%, but I just wanted you to know, don't ever think you would be a burden in my life."

Jenny Slatten's ALS diagnosis 

Jenny Slatten first revealed her ALS diagnosis in May 2026. For those unaware, ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease. It is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Gradually, it leads to muscle weakness and impacts swallowing and mobility. The reality TV star explained that she first began noticing the symptoms in late 2024, like facing difficulty in swallowing and choking while drinking water. Later, medical evaluations revealed her diagnosis in December 2025. In fact, her father passed away from ALS several years ago, and there is no cure for it.

Jenny and Sumit Singh became household names after their appearance on 90 Day Fiance, The Other Way in 2019. Notably, their 30-year age difference got a lot of attention. The couple also faced additional cultural challenges in building their life in India. They first met when Sumit contacted Jenny online under a fake identity before admitting the truth. But despite the difficult start, they continued to grow together. Later, they faced family opposition and public criticism for multiple years before they got married in a traditional Hindu ceremony in 2021. Eventually, Sumit's family accepted their relationship, and the couple now lives in India.
