Now, Victoria's Secret Chief Creative Officer Adam Selman has explained why the brand chose Kylie for the special appearance.
Why was Kylie Jenner chosen to wear The Fantasy Bra?
According to Adam Selman, Kylie Jenner was chosen due to her influence that goes beyond fashion. He spoke to Vogue and shared the thought behind their decision. Adam explained that Kylie's impact goes beyond entertainment, TV, and popular culture, which matches the scale of a Victoria's Secret show. At the same time, he added that the show has evolved over the years into a major entertainment event that made Kylie an ideal choice for the high-profile moment.
Adam also described that the decision was a way for them to give the audience an unexpected pairing. Instead of choosing any traditional Victoria's Secret Angel, they wanted to include a highly recognizable celebrity with one of their most popular creations. The Chief Creative Officer also believes that Kylie's massive following and cultural impact made her an ideal choice to wear the Fantasy Bra. In his words:
"Kylie really extends beyond fashion, beyond culture, beyond TV, beyond one singular thing. That's the exact same thing that we do. Like, the show is so big, it's true entertainment, and I think that she is a great catalyst for that. She's really created her own culture, which- how many people can say that?"
Although Kylie's debut on Victoria's Secret Fashion Show became one of the most talked-about moments from the evening, it was not welcomed by everyone. Some longtime fans of the franchise questioned why a celebrity who was mainly known for reality Television and her beauty business got the significant opportunity over professional runway models. They felt that since the professional runway models have worked with the brands for years, they deserved a chance.
Many viewers also pointed out on social media that the Fantasy Bra had historically represented a major achievement for Victoria's Secret Angels. So, they questioned why models such as Adriana Lima and Barbara Palvin were not chosen for the honor. The criticism also points towards a bigger debate on the fashion show's changing identity. However, Adam's explanation suggests that the brand intended Kylie's selection to create more excitement and reach an audience outside their traditional fans.
For those who don't know, the 2026 Fantasy Bra was made in collaboration with luxury jewelry house Jacob and Co., founded by Jacob Arabo. It has an estimated cost of USD 50 million, making it the most expensive Fantasy Bra to date. The embellished design features 4,410 natural diamonds, including a 75.54-carat yellow center diamond valued at USD 22 million. According to the details shared by the makers, the piece contains nearly 1,373 carats of gemstones. Eventually, 15 craftspeople worked more than 1,000 hours to make it.
Instead of conventional lingerie, the piece was reportedly made completely from gold and diamonds, without any fabric. It weighs just under four pounds. So, it is more of an elaborate piece of jewelry than a runway outfit.
All about the history of the Fantasy Bra
The Fantasy Bra tradition at Victoria's Secret started in 1996, when Claudia Schiffer wore the Million Dollar Miracle Bra. It was specifically made for their Christmas catalog. Eventually, the concept became a major part of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Next, Gisele Bündchen wore the Red Hot Fantasy Bra in 2000, valued at USD 15 million.
Later, Heidi Klum became the first model to wear it on the runway. Over the years, the designs featured increasingly bigger gemstones and eye-price tags. The tradition continued until the fashion show went on a break after 2018. During that time, Elsa Hosk wore the final Fantasy Bra of the era in 2018 with lab-grown diamonds and Swarovski crystals. The Fantasy Bra now marked its return in 2026.
