Eventually, after 2016, she spent nearly a decade away from the spotlight before her tragic death at 35. Why did Daveigh Chase leave Hollywood? 

Daveigh Chase, who won hearts in the early 2000s, saw her career slow by the mid-2010s. In fact, she was last seen in 2016, when she appeared in independent films such as Jack Goes Home and American Romance. After completing these projects, she reportedly disappeared from public view. According to statements by her longtime partner, Roy Hernandez, she struggled with multiple hardships. He said that she had to face severe bullying, financial instability and emotional challenges, which made it increasingly difficult to live in the public eye. 

In fact, the late actress hoped to find peace and stability away from Hollywood's pressure. After her exit from acting, Daveigh faced multiple highly publicised legal incidents in 2017. She once again came into the spotlight after the former actress was questioned in relation to a hospital incident that involved a dying man. Despite not being arrested, she made headlines. Later that same year, Daveigh was taken into custody after riding in a stolen vehicle. In turn, after a year, she faced misdemeanour drug possession charges.

Although none of these incidents became a highlight of her career, they did lead her further away from the public eye. Things became more serious after the former actress withdrew from social media. After 2017, she largely stopped interacting with fans online. Instead, she decided to live a private life away from the entertainment world. 

Daveigh Chase's family estrangement added more to her troubles

Apart from withdrawing herself from the entertainment world, Daveigh Chase was also reportedly estranged from her family. She was born as Daveigh Elizabeth Chase-Schwallier in Las Vegas, Nevada. When she was still a child, her parents got separated. Therefore, she was raised by a single mother. According to her boyfriend, Daveigh had a difficult childhood and eventually stepped away from her immediate family. It continued throughout her adult life. 

Although some extended family members have mourned her passing, Roy claimed that the actress spent her final years largely avoiding relatives. However, she found comfort in her relationship with Roy, who remained by her side during some of her most difficult moments. After her death, she was described as someone who simply wanted a safe place to live, heal and build a peaceful future. 

Inside Daveigh Chase's tragic final days  

Daveigh Chase's life came to a heartbreaking end on June 16, 2026. According to Roy, she was hospitalised earlier in the month due to several malnutrition issues. Eventually, doctors found that she had multiple serious infections, such as meningitis and bloodstream infections. These infections eventually caused sepsis, a life-threatening condition. It led to a rapid organ failure. However, despite the treatment, her health continued to decline. Roy had even started a fundraiser to help give her comfort and support during her final days. He admitted his main goal was to ensure that David felt safe, loved and at peace.
