It's been about two weeks since Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show host, Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Arizona home under mysterious circumstances. Nancy was last seen at night on January 31, 2026 (ET) by Savannah's brother-in-law and Annie Guthrie's husband, Tommaso Cioni. Recently, the FBI released photos and videos of a masked person of interest, and the internet is buzzing with theories regarding Tommaso Cioni being the kidnapper. Amid that, his house has been visited repeatedly during the investigation, leading journalists and the public to wonder why.
In February 2026, journalist and podcast host Megyn Kelly weighed in on the reason why investigators are scrutinising Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, as part of the investigation regarding Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. According to her, the repeated visits of the police officials to Annie and Tommaso's house might be due to their suspicion that the couple was somehow linked to Nancy's abduction. Speaking on her February 13, 2026, SiriusXM programme, Megyn said:
"The reason they are going back to Annie's and Tommaso's house all the time, I think, is that they're wondering if they had anything to do with it.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI stated that there are currently no named suspects or persons of interest in Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping. However, according to the public and several experts, the officials might have kept Annie and Tommaso as a focal point of the case, which explains their interest in the couple's neighbours. Megyn Kelly also shared her two cents about the authorities' repeated return to Annie and Tommaso's neighbourhood to interview their neighbours, particularly asking them for their views on Nancy's daughter, Annie, and her son-in-law. Megyn mentioned:
"I just don't understand why you'd be interviewing the neighbors over and over and over. They keep getting asked about Annie and Tomaso and what they are like. That this is what the FBI and the sheriff's deputies are asking the neighbours."

NewsNation journalist, Ashleigh Banfield claimed on her podcast that Tommaso Cioni was a "prime suspect," citing an unverified law enforcement source. Annie Guthrie and her husband, Tommaso Cioni, are under intense scrutiny as they were among the last people to see Nancy before she disappeared from her Tucson home on January 31, 2026. Tommaso reportedly drove Nancy home after a family dinner on Saturday night, ET, and confirmed she was safely inside at approximately 9:30 p.m. Notably, the officials have not named Annie or Tommaso as suspects in the case.

Some social media users claimed the recently released security camera footage of a masked person of interest in Nancy Guthrie's case matches Tommaso Cioni's physical profile, specifically citing his facial hair (moustache and beard). "I've been suspicious about this guy for a week. Intruder has the same slow shoulders, oaffy build & dark facial hair too," an X user wrote. The public also based their prediction on the fact that "the intruder sure knew the area around the Nest camera," since it had been concealed effectively.

The FBI Phoenix office released a detailed physical description of the masked suspect believed to have kidnapped Nancy Guthrie on February 12, 2026 (ET). Based on forensic analysis of doorbell camera footage, the suspect is described as a male approximately 5'9" to 5'10" tall with an average build. Following that, an investigative reporter who runs the X (formerly Twitter) page @JRLINVESTIGATES wrote, "Tommaso Cioni is much taller than 5 ft 9 - 5 ft," which almost rules him out as the masked person of interest. However, the public still remains suspicious of his involvement in the criminal act.
