More about Freddie Jackson

Freddie Jackson was born in Harlem, New York City. He became one of the leading voices of the “quiet storm” era of the American R&B movement. For the unversed, the term entered R&B culture in 1975 with Smokey Robinson’s album A Quiet Storm. It was defined by its warm, rich instrumentation and was combined with slow-to-mid tempos, making it perfect for late-night radio broadcasts.

Interestingly, Freddie Jackson grew up singing gospel at the White Rock Baptist Church in Harlem back in the ‘60s. During his time at the White Rock Baptist Church, he crossed paths with his longtime collaborator and producer Paul Laurence. Freddie went on to perform for several years with Paul’s group before he decided to join the funk band, Mystic Merlin.

Over the years, Freddie won several accolades. He was nominated for the Grammys multiple times and won an American Music Award for Nice N’ Slow.

Rest in peace, Freddie Jackson. We extend our condolences to his family as they navigate this tough time.
