In a tragic piece of news, it has been revealed that Christopher North, '70s rockstar and one of the founding members of the band, Ambrosia, has died. According to reports, he was 75 years old when he breathed his last. The news of his passing has sent a wave of grief among Ambrosia fans.
Christopher North, also known as Christopher Reed North, was born in San Francisco on January 26, 1951, and raised in San Pedro, California. He had a knack for music from a young age, which led him to play in multiple bands throughout his junior high and high school years. Some of the bands that he played with at the time were The Proones, Thee Exceptions, and The Livin End. In 1968, he went on to form his own psychedelic rock band called Blue Toad Flax, alongside Tom Trefethen. Here, Christopher was in charge of playing the organ and the lead vocals.

A few decades ago, in 1970, Christopher North formed the progressive rock band, Ambrosia. Other members who were in the band include David Pack, Joe Puerta, and Burleigh Drummond. Apparently, Christopher caught Joe Puerta's eye while the former was performing in a "dimly lit room" one night. Later, Joe recalled the same and said:
"There was a coffin with speakers in it. And at the end of the room, Chris was there, playing the organ with a bottle of wine on the top, smoking a cigarette, and there was a girl messaging his shoulders as he played, so I go, 'We gotta get this guy in the band.'"

During his time with Ambrosia, Christopher was well recognised for his uber intense live performances. Many might not be aware, but during their early years, Christopher and his fellow members contributed to The Alan Parsons Project's debut album, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, which was released in 1976. The very next year, in 1977, Christopher reportedly suffered from a breakdown while recording their album, Life Beyond L.A. This led him to leave the band, with his contributions appearing on only two tracks on the album. Well, he did return a year later, in late 1978, for a tour. After Ambrosia reformed in 1989, Christopher continued to perform with his fellow bandmates, Joe and Burleigh, until 2024.

Ambrosia took to their Facebook page to announce Christopher North's death. They wrote about how they will always remember ‘Northwind’ for his fiery stage presence, a legacy which once began when he was first discovered playing in a dimly lit room. In the long note, the band further added:

“Christopher North’s work did more than just fill airwaves; it created ‘aural landscapes’ that balanced virtuosity with soulful, radio-friendly hooks. We celebrate a true craftsman of the classic rock era whose lush piano lines and soaring organ swells will remain timeless. He was truly one of a kind and loved dearly by his fans and bandmates. RIP, Brother Chris, forever and ever in our hearts.”
As of now, the exact cause of Christopher's death is unclear. However, it is worth noting that he had a “brave and successful battle with throat cancer.” He had been diagnosed with the disease back in 2024. An October 2025 post from Ambrosia's lead vocalist, David Pack, also revealed that Christopher was hospitalised last year after he was hit by an “out of control speeding car” while walking to a restaurant. In the post, David mentioned how Christopher was “fighting for his life” and asked their fans to keep their bandmate in their prayers.

Rest in peace, Christopher North!
