Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleVismaya Mohanlal has officially stepped into Malayalam cinema with her acting debut in Thudakkam. While she has largely stayed away from the spotlight over the years, the 32-year-old daughter of Mohanlal has already built a creative identity of her own. She is a published author, artist, and martial arts enthusiast.
Even before the film's release, Vismaya received an outpouring of support from some of Malayalam cinema's biggest names, including Mammootty and Kalyani Priyadarshan, while early audience reactions have praised her screen presence in Jude Anthany Joseph's thriller.
Amid the outpouring of praise within hours of release, here's all you need to know about the actress.
Who is Vismaya Mohanlal?

Born on March 27, 1994, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Vismaya Mohanlal is the daughter of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and his wife Suchitra Mohanlal, the daughter of late Tamil film producer K. Balaji. Her elder brother, Pranav Mohanlal, is also a well-known actor in Malayalam cinema.
Unlike many celebrity children, Vismaya did not rush into films despite being the daughter of one of Malayalam cinema's biggest stars. She completed her schooling at a boarding school in Ooty before pursuing theatre and performance studies in Prague, London and the United States, choosing to develop her craft away from the public eye.
Rather than choosing a career in cinema, Vismaya made her own career in writing, where her artistic prowess soared through poetry. Vismaya’s first collection of poetry, Grains of Stardust, was published in 2021, with her own poems and illustrations. The book was a bestseller and was appreciated by several prominent personalities, including Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan.
Apart from writing, Vismaya has shown interest in photography, painting, and travel. She often posts snippets of her artwork on social media. Alongside her creative work, Vismaya has also spent a lot of time training in Muay Thai, also known as the "Art of Eight Limbs," in Thailand.

For those who don't know this sport, it is a national combat sport of Thailand that has evolved from the battlefield techniques of the 18th century to a globally recognised martial art. Today, Muay Thai is practised in over 150 countries.
Before her acting debut, Vismaya credited her Muay Thai training journey for transforming both her physical fitness and mental discipline. Her martial arts training reportedly played a significant role in preparing her for the physical demands of acting while also helping her adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Thudakkam receives positive early reactions
On the eve of Thudakkam's release, Mammootty took to X to wish Vismaya well on her big day. He wrote, "My heartfelt wishes and blessings to dear Vismaya Mohanlal who is making her acting debut tomorrow with Thudakkam."
Actress Kalyani Priyadarshan shared an encouraging message tagging Vismaya on her Instagram Stories, writing, "All the best for tomorrow, Mayoos. Always rooting for you." Director Jude Anthany Joseph also shared an emotional post about his close bond with Vismaya and her mother, Suchitra Mohanlal.
Thudakkam officially hit the theatres on Friday, August 7, 2026, and the first reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. Several early viewers have already heaped praises on X, applauding Vismaya's natural performance as a debutante and director Jude Anthany Joseph's storytelling. Many also highlighted Jakes Bejoy's background score and Ashish Joe Antony's performance.

Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, Thudakkam stars Vismaya alongside Ashish Joe Antony, Sai Kumar, Bobby Kurian, Manoj K. Jayan and Ganesh Kumar, while Mohanlal makes a special appearance. One of the best bits of the film was when the makers paid a heartfelt tribute to legendary Mohanlal that the fans loved. The message says:
“The acting wizard who attracted me to the magic of cinema."
As Thudakkam begins its theatrical journey, Vismaya Mohanlal appears to have made a promising first impression. Fans are saying this could very well be the start of a notable acting career for one of Malayalam cinema's most celebrated families.
