After Karmelo Anthony was sentenced to 35-years in prison, his girlfriend, Valeria Perez, stepped into the spotlight. He was sentenced in a murder case involving a fellow Texas Teenager, Austin Metcalf. Soon after the jury's decision, Valeria broke her silence and shared an emotional social media message, which has drawn a range of reactions online. Meanwhile, Karmelo was transferred to Wallace Pack Unit in Texas on June 10, 2026.
Valeria Perez was mostly unknown to the public before Karmelo's trial and sentencing. No confirmed information is available about her personal life, family, education, or profession. But after being an anonymous figure, she has gained nationwide attention for sharing an emotional post for Karmelo. Valeria took to her TikTok handle a while ago and shared a tribute with multiple photos of herself and Karmelo. In her caption, she addressed him as her "sweet boy." In fact, she also vowed to continue supporting him despite his prison sentence. In her words:
"Hold your head high, my sweet boy. You're not alone, we're fighting for you, always. I love you more than words."

The emotional message quickly went viral on social media. In turn, she received mixed responses. Some users praised her loyalty to him, while others criticised her for publicly defending someone convicted of murder. One user wrote, "She will be married with kids in a few years." Another person commented, "I'm sure it's the most views she has ever had." Valeria's message has added a new chapter to the case, which has already become a subject of public debate after Anthony's family. His grandmother already accused the jury of being racist towards her grandson. Meanwhile, his family has vowed that the fight is not over.

The case dates back to a conflict that occurred during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. According to investigators, Karmelo and Austin Metcalf got involved in an argument under a team tent. Prosecutors argued that Karmelo increased the conflict and fatally stabbed Austin after a verbal and physical fight.

However, the defence shared that Karmelo acted in self-defence and acted for his safety during the encounter. After a week-long trial, the jury rejected the self-defence claim and found Karmelo guilty of first-degree murder. In turn, he was sentenced to 35-years in prison. But the case has sparked a new debate over race, defence laws, and school safety.

Although Karmelo Anthony has started serving his prison sentence, his family is not ready to settle the legal battle. According to court records, his attorneys have already filed a notice of appeal. In turn, it has begun challenging his conviction. However, it does not involve a new trial or new evidence. Instead, Karmelo's legal team is expected to argue that many mistakes may have occurred during the original proceedings.

It could include jury selection, evidence, or legal instructions given during the trial. Legal experts note that such appeals might take many months or even years before a final decision is reached. If a higher court finds any significant legal mistakes, Karmelo could potentially get a new trial. If the appeal is unsuccessful, his conviction and sentence will stay as they are. Meanwhile, Karmelo remains in state custody.
