After following a young 'Sherlock Holmes' and his best friend, 'James Moriarty', around the globe, they are now attempting to solve the mystery behind the cruel assassination of the 'Four Apostles', four professors at Oxford. However, Young Sherlock fans were left stunned when the true villain was revealed after several misdirects.
The twisted end in Young Sherlock comes after crashing over everything that came before, turning a straightforward conspiracy into something far more personal and far more dangerous for the young detective. By the time we reach the finale, the mystery warps 'Sherlock's' family, his future, and his sense of self. Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Sherlock Holmes begins with 'Princess Gulun Shou'an' as the antagonist, an imposter posing as a royal. She is driven by vengeance after her village was destroyed in a covert chemical weapons test. The cause: a gas being dubbed as "creeping death" derived from a rare mineral beneath her homeland. The program was secretly funded by the British government and overseen by powerful figures tied to Oxford. Believing that the 'Four Apostles' were responsible, 'Gulun' hunted them down one by one as 'Sherlock' and 'James' pursued her across England.
However, their investigation revealed that the conspiracy extended far beyond the professors, with 'Bucephalus Hodge', the influential benefactor behind Oxford's ambitious new science program, at its centre. Nonetheless, as he pieced together the crime, something personal began to come apart.
'Sherlock's' mother, 'Cordelia' has been confined to an asylum following the demise of his younger sister, 'Beatrice'. However, long dismissed as unstable, she claims that she is being watched. While 'Sherlock' initially fears this is another symptom of her mental decline, he later discovers recording devices hidden in her room. With 'James's' help, he orchestrates her escape, uncovering proof that her paranoia was engineered. On the other hand, 'Sherlock' reopens the question of 'Beatrice's' death, for which he had blamed himself, believing she ran away after he ignored her.

Nonetheless, the mounting inconsistencies suggest something darker. When 'Sherlock' and 'James' exhume her grave, they make a shocking discovery: the body buried there is not 'Beatrice Holmes'. The mystery that once revolved around assassinated professors now becomes painfully intimate.
The investigation leads to an even more heartbreaking truth when 'Sherlock's' father, 'Silas', turns out to be secretly involved in the chemical weapons program. Partnering with 'Professor Malik', he refined the gas and sought to sell it to the highest bidder. However, his political corruption pales in comparison to his domestic betrayal. It is revealed that 'Silas' faked 'Beatrice's' death, using the trauma to destabilise his wife and take her fortune. He had hidden her away with the groundskeeper’s family while keeping 'Cordelia' drugged and institutionalised.
He further shipped 'Sherlock' to boarding school, where he remained isolated and was manipulated from afar. With his wife declared unstable and his son removed, 'Silas' consolidated control of the estate and the weapons project. The revelation reveals how he engineered reality itself, bending truth to serve his ambitions.

'Beatrice' is revealed to be alive, posing as 'Hodge's' assistant, 'Holly'. She was raised by 'Silas', who turns her into a cold, calculating, and emotionally distant being. He filled her mind with lies about her mother's cruelty and her brother's indifference. Seeing her intelligence, he trained her to think like him, a revelation that shatters 'Sherlock', who must face that his sister not only survived but chose to stand with their father.
'Princess Gulun Shou'an' successfully kills 'Malik' and avenges her village. The narrative converges on the mining operation that produces the deadly gas. Amid explosions and betrayal, 'Beatrice' ultimately turns against her father. 'Sherlock' and 'Silas clash on the cliffside that hauntingly echoes the future, Reichenbach Falls. In a final act of control, 'Silas' uses 'Sherlock's' morality against him. Even at the brink of death, he manipulates the moment, and the young detective refuses to let his father be executed in cold blood, insisting on the possibility of redemption. 'Silas' exploits that hesitation, seizing agency one last time before plunging to his apparent death.
'James' evolution comes as a contrast to 'Sherlock's' belief in truth and moral order. At first, he admires 'Silas' as a powerful intellectual figure. However, when he realises that 'Silas' is actually a manipulative opportunist, it doesn't disillusion him; it reshapes his thinking. 'James' concludes the world is fundamentally unfair and begins to question why anyone should play fair. 'Silas' becomes, in a way, a dark mentor, influencing 'James' through cynicism.

'Silas' serves as 'Sherlock's' dark mirror, both being brilliant strategists who can think many moves ahead, but their motives differ. While 'Silas' believes intelligence grants the right to control others, 'Sherlock' believes it should reveal the truth. The season ends with the conspiracy exposed and 'Silas' defeated. However, for Sherlock, this is only the beginning.
