Who Is Malayalam Actor Salim Kumar? Admitted In ICU On Ventilator, Earlier Had A Liver Transplant

In a piece of heartbreaking news, National Award-winning actor, Salim Kumar, has been hospitalised and is battling for his life as he is on a ventilator. He was taken to Amrita Hospital after he had complained of having chest discomfort on the morning of June 6, 2026. Well, the hospital authorities did not declare what exactly happened to Salim and only confirmed that he is on ventilator support.

National Award-winning actor, Salim Kumar, has been battling with health issues for a while now. According to social media reports, Salim has been admitted to a private hospital located in Kochi after he experienced health issues, according to hospital authorities. The health complications Salim is undergoing are not known to anyone yet. The actor's health had suddenly deteriorated, and a detailed medical report will soon be shared.

Salim Kumar had earlier undergone a liver transplant surgery

Salim Kumar, along with actor Bala, had undergone a liver transplant at Amrita Hospital. This is the same hospital where Salim Kumar is currently admitted. According to a report published on the hospital's website, Salim had previously spoken about his own journey with the surgical transformation. Salim had shared that he had undergone various alternative treatments before the doctors at Amrita Hospital had recommended him a liver transplant.

Salim Kumar had earlier emphasised on giving importance to getting the right kind of advice and making time-based decisions from a set of trusted medical professionals. Salim's hospital had done a lot of live donor liver transplants, combined liver-kidney transplants, and pediatric liver transplants. The actor had expressed gratefulness of being saved and had shared:

"There will be many myths and alternatives offered. It is crucial to seek the right advice, make informed decisions, and consult the right doctors. We should be truly grateful to the doctors who save us, taking risks; they are akin to gods." 

Did Salim Kumar's health deteriorate due to his existing life-related issues?

A report by the New Indian Express had shared that Salim Kumar is in the ICU, and it is not clear if his health condition worsened due to his earlier liver-related treatment that he has been undergoing in recent times. The hospital where Salim has been admitted had earlier performed India's first robotic donor hepatectomy and has done 1200 liver transplants along with 350 robotic donor hepatectomies.

Salim Kumar was active in the public life despite facing health issues

Salim Kumar was known to win both National and State Awards for Best Actor for his performance in Salim Ahmed's Adaminte Makan Abu back in 2010. In the story, the plot centres on the medical history of the illness. Salim, despite facing a lot of health challenges, has been known for being active in public life. It was in 1997 when Salim started his career in movies. Even when the Kerala Assembly elections happened recently, Salim had revealed of supporting a political party. He has also been seen with various leaders and is known for his movies such as Bha Bha Ba and Azadi. Before Salim Kumar became famous for mimicry and drama, and before he entered movies, he was known for doing comedy and character roles in the Malayalam movie industry.

Salim Kumar did not stop working despite having very fragile health

Salim Kumar had won the Kerala State Film Award on varied four occasions. He has been known to be a Congress supporter who campaigned a lot for the United Democratic Front (UDF) back in the Assembly election. Salim's campaign for Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, who had won from the home constituency of the actor, drew criticism from the party's supporters. Salim Kumar reportedly, in his speech, had made fun of the development during the tenure of the CM, which did not sit well with the founders. They had launched a social media campaign against the actor. The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled had also lodged a complaint with the Election Commission and alleged that remarks made by Sushil had disrespected mental health issues and also mocked patients dealing with it.

Salim Kumar has never given up on life easily

Salim Kumar has been someone who continued to campaign for the UDF despite having very fragile health. His last public appearance was seen at North Paravur when Satheesan became the Chief Minister. Speaking about his personal life, the actor is married to Sunitha, and they have been together for more than 25 years. The couple, on their 25th wedding anniversary, had also shared hosting an intimate celebration.
