The Dodgers star, Shohei Ohtani, is currently in his best form. Shohei Ohtani and his team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, are prepping to compete against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Shohei’s most recent personal win as a pitcher came on May 20, 2026, when he led his team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, to a 4-0 victory over the San Diego Padres. Amid this, people have grown curious to know about Shohei’s lady luck, Mamiko Tanaka.

Meet Shohei Ohtani's wife, Mamiko Tanaka

Mamiko Tanaka was born on December 11, 1996, in Japan. She is a former professional basketball player. She began her career in basketball playing for Waseeda University. In 2019, Mamiko went professional with the Fujitsu Red Wave of the Women's Japan Basketball League. She played for the team for four years before retiring in 2023. According to a report by ESPN, Mamiko had a shooting rate of 47.7% from the field and 69.9% from the free-throw line across 28 games in her last season.

Shohei Ohtani announced his marriage to Mamiko Tanaka in 2024

Shohei Ohtani is very private when it comes to his personal life. In February 2024, the MLB player announced that he got married to Mamiko Tanaka on his Instagram. While the captain was written in English, Shohei had also shared a message in Japanese for his fans. It is worth mentioning that although Shohei had revealed that he was married, he kept the identity of his partner hidden at the time. According to the Associated Press and CNN, the translation of Shohei’s Japanese message can be read as:

"The season is approaching, I am pleased to announce to you that I have gotten married. We are still young and there are many things we don’t know yet, but we hope you will warmly watch over us. We hope that the two of us (and one dog) will work together to support each other and move forward alongside with our fans. I don’t really feel comfortable talking about when I got married exactly."

In the caption, Shohei stated that his wife is a native of Japan. He mentioned that Mamiko is very special to him. He added that he is excited to experience his new journey with his ladylove. Two weeks after announcing his marriage to Mamiko, Shohei posed with his wife, Mamiko, as they boarded a plane to Seoul, South Korea, where the Los Angeles Dodgers were set to play. The team posted a photo of the newlyweds on X (formerly Twitter).

Mamiko Tanaka is the biggest supporter of Shohei Ohtani

During the season-opening match in 2024 against the San Diego Padres, Shohei and Mamiko were greeted by a sea of fans. The couple was seen walking together and twinning in an all-black outfit. In September 2024, Mamiko was seen cheering for her husband, Shohei. In one of the videos posted by Dodgers Nation on X, the former basketball player was seen celebrating with her husband and their dog, Decoy, after his team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, won the NL West. 

For his remarkable performance in 2025, Shohei was honoured with the NL MVP award. On May 25, 2026, the MLB hosted the 101st New York Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) Awards Gala. However, it was Shohei and Mamiko’s joint appearance that stole the spotlight. Mamiko turned heads in a navy blue, one-shoulder gown and paired it with black open-toe heels, earrings and a bracelet. Shohei complimented her look and wore a matching suit.

Fans couldn’t stop gushing over the couple. A user wrote, "They look good together." Another fan commented, "Family goals & hardware goals in one frame. Ohtani is carrying both the trophy and the legacy." A third user penned, "Ohtani and Mamiko, this combo is totally unbeatable, right?" A fourth user wrote, "The Ohtani couple has a perfect height difference and is wonderful."

Shohei Ohtani and Mamiko Tanaka share a daughter

On April 19, 2025, Shohei announced the arrival of his first child with Mamiko. Taking to his Instagram handle, the MLB star mentioned that he and his wife were blessed with a baby girl. He thanked his daughter for making them nervous as well as super anxious parents. He wrote:

"Welcome to the Ohtani Family! I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter. To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents."
