Mirra Andreeva may have just lifted her first French Open title, but it was in fact her speech after the victory that started a new discussion. After defeating Maja Chwalinska in the women's singles final at Roland Garros, the 19-year-old gave herself complete credit for her win. It marks another platform where Mirra continued her unique tradition, which has now become her signature style. Although she did thank her coach, the tournament staff, and her opponent, it was her self-appreciation that piqued viewers' curiosity.
Mirra Andreeva won the French Open final a while ago. While everyone was praising the 19-year-old, she grabbed attention during the presentation when the Tennis champion said, "I want to thank myself for believing in myself." She explained that she has always given her 100% even when things get tough. At the same time, she has spent every day trying to be better as a person and as a player. In turn, Mirra felt that only she truly understood the pressure and nerves she faced throughout the two-week tournament. According to Andreeva, her habit of thanking herself does not make her arrogant.

Instead, it serves as a reminder for her to recognize the hard work, sacrifices, and mental battles athletes face behind the scenes. For those unaware, the teenager has often spoken about the importance of self-belief and of giving herself credit for handling difficult moments on and off the court. Interestingly, this idea was inspired by an unexpected source: American rapper Snoop Dogg. Mirra once admitted that she jokingly adopted the practice after watching Snoop Dogg's famous 2018 Hollywood Walk of Fame Speech.

During that speech, the rapper humorously thanked himself for believing in himself and for investing years in hard work. However, the same joke has become a personal mantra for the young tennis star. Over time, she realized how the message carried a deeper meaning. Although her coaches, family members, and support staff play important roles in her journey, publicly appreciating her own efforts has become a way for her to celebrate her dedication.

Mirra Andreeva's latest thank-you moment came after her outstanding campaign at the 2026 French Open. She came into the tournament as the eighth seed. In fact, Mirra was not even considered among the top favorites alongside other International tennis icons like Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, and Elena Rybakina. However, as the tournament went on, she quickly emerged as one of the most consistently performing players.

Mirra dropped only one set during the entire competition. In turn, she looked increasingly dominant with every round. In the final, she had comfortably defeated qualifier Maja Chwalinska, who enjoyed an impressive run to her first Grand Slam final. Now, after her win, Mirra is the youngest French Open women's champion since Monica Seles won in 1992. It also marked a major milestone in her career, especially when she first appeared at the Roland Garros as a teenage qualifier, a few years ago. Meanwhile, Mirra thanked her coach and former French Open finalist, Maja Chwalinska for her incredible performance at the tournament. In her words:
"Congrats to Maja for these amazing three weeks, coming through qualifying, winning so many matches, beating so many great players. You're a very tricky opponent. I wouldn't want to play against you again. I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the season, and I hope we play many, many more finals together in the future."

Apart from tennis, Mirra Andreeva leads a private life despite her increasing fame. She was born in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. The 19-year-old comes from a family deeply connected to the sport. Even her sister, Erika Andreeva, is a professional tennis player, and they have been together for several years. Now, at a young age, she is focused on her tennis career and keeps her personal life largely out of the spotlight. Presently, Mirra lives and trains in France. She also shares lighthearted fun moments, stories, and life with her puppy, Rassy, with fans.
We congratulate Mirra Andreeva on winning French Open 2026.
