Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleKacey Musgraves is in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. The country music star marked her 38th birthday on the opening night of her tour at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. However, things took a turn when she paused her show to urge concertgoers to contribute to the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights.
While Kacey clarified that it was “not a political thing,” many fans could not help but think that way. Now with Kacey in the center of attention, some have also become curious about her personal life, especially her ex-boyfriend, Cole Schafer.

According to reports, Cole Schafer lives in Nashville, although he is originally from Southern Indiana. His website reveals that he works as a copywriter “by day,” and he turns into a poet “by night.” Cole writes under the alias January Black. Some of his most well-known books of poetry and prose include One Minute, Please?, After Her, and Guillotine.
In a June 2022 blog post, Cole admitted that even though he has never regretted his decision to become a writer, he does struggle with it at times. He wrote:
"I've written before that if I weren't a writer, I'd be a Formula 1 driver or a tattoo artist or an abstract painter…But, because I've chosen to be a writer, I've also chosen not to be everything else I've listed out up above. I think this is the pain that Jonathan Safran Foer was describing when he wrote, 'Sometimes I can hear my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I'm not living.'”

Speaking of his relationship with Kacey Musgraves, the duo met for the first time when they happened to lock eyes in a crowded restaurant. According to the singer, Cole had no idea who she was when they crossed paths, and this is exactly what made her like him more. She admitted the same in an interview, saying, “He did not know who I was, which I loved.”
After they began dating, Cole Schafer even wrote a poem dedicated to his ladylove. Referring to a Polaroid of Kacey holding a fan over her shoulder, which he had previously posted on Instagram, Cole included the poem in his book, Guillotine. It read:
"There is a polaroid of her / on the dashboard of my '89 Range Rover; / a polaroid where she's bending the wind / with an oriental fan; / as she gazes over her left shoulder, / her eyes devouring something the camera cannot see."
It is worth mentioning that even though writing appears to be Cole Schafer’s main passion, that's not all he is capable of. This was evidenced when Kacey penned a tribute for him on his 28th birthday and complimented him on his various skills. For instance, she gushed about how he can play the guitar and cook so well that it could ‘turn her on.’
Cole Schafer was Kacey Musgraves' biggest supporter during their relationship
While they were together, Cole was one of Kacey Musgraves' biggest supporters. Instead of being a jealous boyfriend, he loved honoring her career wins. Back in February 2022, the writer was seen posting a carousel of black-and-white photos from backstage at one of Kacey’s shows at Madison Square Garden.
The writer called the night “a big fucking deal, a bigger deal than I think her modesty will allow her to wrap her head around.” Complimenting Kacey even further, Cole called her “the most naturally gifted human” that he has ever been around. While admiring how the singer could perform without any visible nerves, he also gushed about the kind of person Kacey is offstage.
