Meet John Goodman's wife, Anna Beth Goodman
Anna Beth Goodman, who is best known as John Goodman’s wife, is a native of Bogalusa, Louisiana. She is an entrepreneur and owns a luxury children's clothing brand in New Orleans named Pippen Lane. Although Anna stayed largely out of the limelight, she has established a reputable presence in the fashion and retail industry. She has completed her education in fine arts from the University of New Orleans.
John Goodman and Anna Beth Goodman's love story
John and Anna Beth first crossed paths at a Halloween party at Tipitina’s, a famous music venue in New Orleans, in the late 1980s. Back then, John was taking a break from filming the TV show, Everybody’s All-American. Anna was studying fine arts at the University of New Orleans. At the time, John was in his mid-30s, and Anna was 19 years old. It was Anna who walked up to John and said 'hi.'
On Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2021, John shared that initially Anna kind of thought that he was a zombie due to his shyness. The Roseanne actor also said that he asked a friend to keep an eye on her and eventually, about a year after they met, they began dating. In April 1988, the couple got engaged on the banks of the Mississippi River in New Orleans' French Quarter. It was John who went down on one knee to propose to his ladylove. Recalling the moment, John shared on Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2018:
"We knew it was coming for a while. We actually went to the jewelry store to get the ring before we went down to the river."
The duo tied the knot at New Orleans’ Saint Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church in November 1989. The couple got married in front of 650 guests in the church ceremony. Anna walked down the aisle with her father, Seymon, a real estate developer from her hometown of Bogalusa. After exchanging the vows, the pair and the guests went on a three-hour cruise on a Mississippi riverboat, the Creole Queen.
The couple welcomed their daughter, Molly Evangeline, in 1990. She was expecting Molly while John was filming the 1991 comedy/thriller, Barton Fink. After their daughter, Molly, was born, the couple decided to raise her in New Orleans, closer to Anna Beth’s family rather than Los Angeles, as a result of the fame and recognition John was receiving for his roles in projects including Roseanne and Raising Arizona.
John never shied away from speaking about his alcohol addiction. It took him many years to recover. During that difficult phase, Anna became his pillar of strength. Around 2008, Anna helped John begin his recovery. She contacted people and helped him get into a treatment center, where he went through detox and began his recovery. At the time, John was less involved as a father, and it was Anna who took care of their daughter, Molly.
