Meet Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam's son Jason Sanjay
Jason Sanjay is the son of much-loved actor-turned-politician Vijay and his ex-wife Sangeetha Sornalingam. While Jason largely stayed out of the limelight in his early years despite belonging to one of Tamil cinema's most celebrated families, fans are now excited to see what the young man has to offer, and it seems he has many surprises in store.
Yes! Jason Sanjay left everyone stunned when he announced his directorial debut. While many expected him to follow in his father Vijay's footsteps as an actor, Jason revealed that he has always been more interested in filmmaking. According to reports, he spent time on film sets and watched films from around the world while growing up.

For him, the wonder was not in channelling different characters, but in the lens that captured it. This eventually sparked his passion for storytelling and screenwriting. That interest ultimately led him to pursue direction instead of acting.
Jason Sanjay reveals why he chose direction over acting
In a recent interview, Jason Sanjay reflected on his decision to become a director instead of an actor. He revealed that he had made up his mind about becoming a director years ago. He shared that acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Alphonse Puthren had once approached him with an acting opportunity when he was around 20 years old. However, he declined the offer because he had already decided that directing was his true calling.
Nonetheless, in an interview with Ananada Vikatan, he revealed that acting is not completely out of the picture for him. He shared that his future will be decided by how Sigma performs on screen. He stated:
"When you're a director, and you explain a scene to actors on set... there's an actor in me too. Right now, more than anything else, I have the huge responsibility of releasing Sigma and making it a success. That's where my entire focus is. Only after the film releases will I think about whether I want to act or continue directing."

For the unversed, Sigma will mark the debut of Jason Sanjay as a director. The feature film is one of the most anticipated Tamil releases because of his famous lineage. What further makes viewers curious about the film is the fact that despite appearing in Sigma Style, Jason chose to enter the industry as a filmmaker rather than an actor. He also reflected on his decision for the same and said:
"I didn’t appear in the promotional song because I wanted to become an actor. Since the song exists outside the film's narrative, I just did it for fun. The promotional song is meant to introduce the people who are part of the film and give audiences a sense of the film’s theme and style. That’s why I danced in it."
While the makers have kept most plot details under wraps. The film stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah in the lead roles, with a supporting cast that includes Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Yog Japee, and Sheela Rajkumar. The film was initially expected to hit theatres on July 23, 2026. However, reports suggest the release has been postponed to August 2026 to avoid a clash with Vijay's much-awaited film Jana Nayagan.
