Hayden Panettiere is hogging the limelight as she broke her silence on claims that she abandoned her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya Evdokia Klitschko. For the unversed, Hayden, who is widely known for the superhero series, Heroes, shares a daughter with her ex-fiance, Wladimir Klitschko. The duo had been in an on-and-off relationship for nine years until 2018.

Back in 2018, Hayden signed over custody of her daughter, Kaya, to her ex-fiance, Wladimir, due to her struggles with addiction. In a recent interview with US Weekly, the Heroes fame reflected on her current status with her daughter and her ex. Hayden shared that as she met her ex, Wladimir, when she was 19, she is very close to him even after their breakup. Wladimir Klitschko was born in 1976 in Kazakhstan. He is a Ukrainian former professional boxer whose career spanned from 1996 to 2017. At an early age, Wladimir began his boxing training. Wladimir and his older brother, Vitali, became sensations in the boxing world. Wladimir rose to fame in the 1996 Summer Olympics when he won a gold medal for Ukraine in the super-heavyweight division. Besides being a boxing legend, Wladimir is an entrepreneur. He and his brother, Vitali, founded the boxing promotion company K2 Promotions.

In 2008, Hayden met Wladimir at a party for a mutual friend. Back then, the Heroes fame was in a relationship. However, she was the first one to make the first move. Later, on February 17, 2009, Hayden ended her the then-relationship with Milo Ventimiglia. In the same year, Hayden and Wladimir began dating. In 2013, Hayden and Wladimir got engaged. The duo had been in an on-and-off romance for nine years. In 2018, the couple called off their engagement.

In 2018, Hayden signed over custody of Kaya to her ex-fiance, Wladimir. At the time, she was struggling with addiction. Speaking on Red Table Talk in 2022, Hayden opened up about giving full custody of her daughter to Wladimir. She called it the most heartbreaking moment. The Heroes alum mentioned that she was not aware of Wladimir’s sudden claim to have full custody of their child. She was quoted as saying:

"Kaya was almost 3 and it wasn't fully my decision. In fact, I didn't even know it was happening until she was already over there. I thought she was going over to visit him like she always did. Kaya would go back and forth from me in Nashville and Ukraine, and then once she was over there, it was immediately, 'I want full custody of her,' which was a shock to me. It was very upsetting signing those papers to give him full custody. It was like the most heartbreaking thing I've ever, ever had to do in my life."

In a recent conversation with US Weekly, Hayden recounted the time when she had to give away Kaya’s full custody to Wladimir. She mentioned that although it was heartbreaking to sign over custody of Kaya to Wladimir, she had to think about what would be best for her daughter above anything else. She explained that being a mom means making painful decisions for the well-being of the child. She also praised her ex-fiance and said that he made the right decisions to have custody. In her words:

"I had to ultimately take into consideration the most important thing, which was how this was all going to affect my daughter. Sometimes that means having to do the hardest things in the world, for their sake. It was important to always put her first. Wlad is an incredible father, and I know he was doing what he felt was best for our daughter."
