She has previously worked as an elementary and middle school art teacher and has been actively working with Platner's campaign since its launch. Apart from her support of his political endeavours, Amy also manages Platner's Oyster farming company, Waukeag Neck Oyster Co. Platner met Amy through friends before they matched on Bumble, a dating app. The couple then got married in Autumn 2024.

In May 2026, there were allegations against Graham Platner that he cheated on his wife, Amy. Former Maine state legislator Genevieve McDonald revealed that, while the campaign was trying to assess Platner's election vulnerability, she learned about his scandal from his wife. Yes, Platner's wife, Amy, told Genevieve McDonald that he sexted multiple women while being married to her.

Amy told Gertner’s campaign about text messages she had found in spring 2025 between her husband and other women, dating back to early in their marriage. It was reported that Amy flagged the news after she found the explicit messages on her husband’s phone. His campaign also confirmed that Platner has a profile on the messaging app “Kik”, under the username “phustle0331”. In the profile picture, Platner is shirtless in a bathroom, a towel around his waist. A similar picture was used on his since-deleted Reddit account and a now-deleted Instagram account.

When the reports of Graham Platner’s sexting controversy made their way to the headlines, his wife, Amy, accused McDonald of spreading gossip and invading their privacy. Speaking about how she trusted McDonald with the most private matter of her marriage, Amy shared:
“I confided deeply personal details about my marriage to someone I considered a friend. I trusted this person with the most private chapter of our lives – the early days of our marriage before any campaign was on our mind.”

After the sexting scandal broke, Amy responded to the reports and defended her husband. In a social media video, Amy shared how difficult it is to cope with being newly married while going through infertility. Coming out in her husband’s support, Amy shared:
“Graham and I have a great marriage. Being married is hard. Being newly married is hard. Being newly married and going through infertility is hard ... I don’t even know if I have the right words to describe what we’ve been going through, but our marriage counselor helps. No marriage is perfect, and I don't want a perfect marriage. I want my marriage."
Amy is not just a dutiful wife to Graham Platner but has been his pillar of strength throughout his campaign. Earlier, Seedlings to Sunflower, an NGO for childcare, posted on Facebook about how Graham and Amy had visited them. They also thanked the couple for listening to their problems and engaging with the community.

Brought up in Sullivan, Maine, Graham is the eldest of two sons born to a mother, Leslie Harlow, who is a restaurant owner, and a father, Bronson Platner, who is a lawyer. After graduating from high school, Platner joined the Marine Corps and served for 8 years. After returning from the Army, Platner began oyster farming in his hometown.
