At an age when girls dream about their career and marriage, the gorgeous Sushmita Sen had inspired everyone with the decision of adoption. She was barely 25 when the former Miss Universe had taken the boldest step of her life of adopting a baby girl and becoming a single mother. And since then, we have only seen her as a doting mother.
It was in the year 2000 when Sushmita Sen had adopted her first girl child, Renee, after a complicated legal battle and in 2010, she had adopted her second child, Alisah. Sushmita had broken all the stereotypes and had proved that a woman doesn't need a man to start a family. She has always carved her own path and is the sole ruler of her life.

However, did you know that Sushmita had got cold feet a day before bringing Renee home? Recalling the same in a throwback interview with Femina, the stunning actress had called herself a 'nervous bride' and had stated:
"The night before I brought her home, I was throwing up all through the night - nervous as a bride. That night, I had decided I was going to be a mother - but I didn’t know-how. I kept asking how will I do this… Now, everything works."
Sushmita had also revealed that Renee will always be her first child, even if she gets married and have her own children. In her words:
"She will take her place as the first of my children, the eldest of the siblings. And I'm not afraid of telling her that unlike other children, she has been born from my heart."

Sushmita has always encouraged millions with her inspiring words. A few years back, Sushmita had attended an event at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Hyderabad, where she had spoken about how adopting her two daughters, Renee and Alisah, was not an act of charity but a way to protect herself. Speaking about motherhood, the diva had shared that she might not be the biological mother of her daughters, but she has given birth to them from the heart.
In a chat with India Today, Sushmita had shared why she had dropped out of films after adopting Alisah. The former Miss Universe had clarified that she couldn’t be there for her elder daughter, Renee, but wanted to be with Alisah. She had also shared that her thought of looking towards motherhood had changed when she had adopted Alisah. In the actress’ own words:
"I know that people say that your best years are your youthful years where you can do films and you look younger etc. I asked myself, 'If I don't do films right now and I focus on this, will I regret it? And if I choose to not be with Alisah and go do films, which one would I regret more?' It was a no-brainer for me. It's not just seeing their first step or first word, that I missed out for Renee. It's their personality development, to witness who they are becoming. I did not sponsor a child. I became a mother. There is a very big difference.”
