Brigitte Bardot, the French 1960s actress, singer and model and one of the greatest screen sirens of the 20th century, passed away on December 28, 2025. Brigitte was widely known for her role in the 1956 film, And God Created Woman and became internationally famous with her portrayal of s*xualised teen bride. She was 91 years old when she left for the heavenly abode. Bruno Jacquelin of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the protection of animals confirmed the death of the French actress.
For the unversed, besides being an iconic star, Brigitte later became an animal rights activist. The disheartening news of her death was confirmed by Bruno Jacquelin of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation. Speaking to The Associated Press, Bruno shared that Brigitte died on December 28, 2025, at her southern France home. The cause of death is yet to be revealed. Bruno mentioned that arrangements for funeral or memorial services are still pending. He added that the French actress was hospitalised last month in November 2025. The statement released by the Brigitte Bardot Foundation after her death can be read as:
"The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with immense sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation."

Brigitte Bardot became an overnight sensation with her film, And God Created Woman, directed by Roger Vadim. For the uninitiated, Brigitte got married to Roger Vadim in 1952, and it was the latter who saw the former’s potential and wrote the script of the 1956 romantic drama. The film featured Brigitte’s childlike innocence and raw s**uality. She starred in many films, including Babette Goes to War, The Truth, Contempt, and Viva Maria.

Brigitte left acting when she was 39 years old, and her last film was The Woman Grabber. After she retired from the glamour world, Brigitte chose to lead a quieter life at her villa in St. Tropez on the French Riviera. A decade later, Brigitte founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and became an animal rights activist. Both the careers of Brigitte were equally sensational. In 2007, on her 73rd birthday, Brigitte told The Associated Press that humans are never satisfied and harm animals to fulfil their own needs. Thus, she no longer cared about her past glory and stood against the people who tried to harm them. She was quoted as saying:
"Man is an insatiable predator. I don’t care about my past glory. That means nothing in the face of an animal that suffers, since it has no power, no words to defend itself."

French President, Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the late icon, Brigitte Bardot, after she passed away at the age of 91. He wrote a note remembering the contribution the French actress had made to the industry and society. For those unaware, Brigitte’s face was chosen as the national symbol of France, known as 'Marianne'. She had a worldwide fame for her works both in films and in taking care of animals. Emmanuel shared a heartfelt note on social media and remembered Brigitte’s journey as a whole. The note can be read as:
