He was best known for his work on some of the band's most iconic songs. But, he eventually passed away on June 18 2026, leaving his bandmates in shock. Meanwhile, several of his colleagues from the music industry have extended their condolences for the beloved performer.
According to the latest updates shared by his bandmates and supporters, Justin Cary suffered a major stroke on June 11 2026. In turn, he was quickly taken to the Albany Medical Centre in New York. Although the doctors tried their best to stabilise his condition, they could not save him. In fact, the stroke left him in a critical condition, and he needed urgent medical treatment. When Justin was in the hospital, he underwent two surgeries. They were trained to manage complications arising from the medical emergency.

Still, his condition continued to decline. Until now, the authorities have not reported any other contributing factors. But, the people close to the bassist have described that the stroke was "sudden" and "unexpected." Days later, Justin died. Eventually, the bassist's supporters and family rallied around him and his loved ones through an online fundraiser. Especially after suffering a stroke, Justin spent his final week in the Intensive Care Unit. Some medical updates shared with supporters revealed that he was placed on a respirator during his treatment.

Throughout his treatment, his wife, Linda, was always by his side. According to updates by his friends, she spent hours reading to him. She also used to talk with him and remind him how much she loved him. Therefore, friends used to hope he could hear her voice even while he was receiving treatment. A day before his death, his supporters were told that Justin would remain in the ICU. But, sadly, he passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026. Some reports claim that soft music was playing in his hospital during his final moments. In turn, it created a quiet and emotional farewell for the musician.

Justin Cary's wife, Linda, was his biggest source of support throughout his hospitalisation. According to friends and fellow musicians, she always remained by his bedside to care for him. After his death, Sixpence None the Richer's lead singer, Leigh Nash, encouraged their fans to keep Linda in their thoughts and prayers. She described him as a part of the band's extended family. In fact, she also expressed gratitude to fans for standing beside her in difficult times.

Meanwhile, the fundraiser made sharingà Justin's hospitalisation a way for fans and fellow musicians to help ease the financial burden associated with his medical care. At the same time, the band's co-founder, Matt Slocum, called Justin a brother, friend and musical partner. In her words:
"We sure had a great time" is an understatement. Thank you, Justin. We love you forever. Please keep his dear Linda close to your hearts. She is our family. There's never been anybody like Justin."

Justin Cary established a respectable career as a touring musician and session bassist. He joined Sixpence None the Richer in 1997, just before the release of their breakthrough self-titled album with the global hit, Kiss Me. Eventually, the song became one of the defining tracks of the late 1990s and helped introduce Justin's musicianship to audiences worldwide. Apart from the band, he worked with numerous artists across different genres. Some of them included Counting Crows, Lee Brice, Progress Knapp and many others.
