Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleThe probe into the alleged murder of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal is still sparking fresh debate, and a viral video of accused Siya Goyal has now raised new questions about how much her family really knew about her personal life. The clip, which appears to show Siya attending a private party while holding a beer bottle, has resurfaced days after her mother publicly claimed that her daughter neither drank alcohol nor attended parties.
While the video is not linked to the alleged crime and does not depict any illegal activity, it has intensified online discussions about whether Siya had been living a "double life" unknown to her family. The controversy has gained further momentum after author Chetan Bhagat weighed in, saying that although "no defence can save" Siya if she is found guilty, the case also reflects the pressures many young adults face in deeply conservative families.
Viral video contradicts Siya Goyal's mother's claims
In a recent interview, Siya's mother, Pooja Goyal, maintained that her daughter never attended parties, consumed alcohol or smoked. She also insisted that co-accused Chetan Chaudhary was merely Siya's friend, despite investigators alleging the two were romantically involved.

However, an undated video circulating online appears to show Siya at a party with loud music playing in the background while she holds what looks like a beer bottle and speaks on the phone. Although the footage does not establish any connection to the murder investigation, many social media users have questioned whether it contradicts her family's public statements.
Chetan Bhagat says no defence can save Siya now
Speaking to India Today, Bhagat stressed that nothing in his comments should be interpreted as a defence of Siya. "If she's proven guilty, she should be punished," he said, adding that he does not believe any moral defence exists for the alleged crime. The 2 States author remarked:
"There is nobody who can defend her now. Nobody. The only defence they'll make is there is no evidence or some legal loophole they'll try to find."

At the same time, Bhagat argued that the case highlights a larger social issue surrounding parental control in some affluent business families. He questioned how Siya's parents allegedly remained unaware of key aspects of her personal life despite arranging her marriage at a young age. Referring to the viral party video and her mother's public remarks, Bhagat suggested the family either knew very little about Siya's lifestyle or failed to recognise it. He said in a scathing statement:
"There are videos of her in clubs and all, and the mom says, 'No, I didn't know, she never drank.' So you are either clueless. Are you giving me the clueless defence?"
Siya allegedly told investigators she did not call off her engagement because doing so would have brought "shame" to her family. While reiterating that Siya should face punishment if convicted, Bhagat argued that the case also exposes the pressure many young adults experience in conservative business families. Regardless, punishment is due where an innocent life was lost. The author noted:
"Punish her. She will get punished if she's proven guilty... But the bigger issue is that India is really regressive still."

The alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal has already sparked widespread discussion about arranged marriages, family expectations and personal autonomy. Pooja Agarwal claimed that Chetan was simply a friend whom the family knew through social circles. Addressing photographs of the two together that surfaced online, Siya's mother said they were taken while attending a mutual friend's wedding and did not indicate a relationship.
Investigators continue gathering evidence, including crime scene reconstructions and forensic analysis. What is your take on Siya Goyal's alleged double life after her mother's claims?
