Was Shamar Elkins Mentally Disturbed? Louisiana Shooter's Recent Fb Posts Indicate Marital Struggles

The horrific mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, has left the nation deeply disturbed. On April 19, 2026, a gunman, suspected to be Shamar Elkins, 31, massacred the Cedar Grove neighborhood, leaving eight children dead and two women injured. With the unexpected tragedy, the internet is now searching for answers, trying to connect the dots as to what could have led Elkins to kill the victims, seven out of whom were his own children.

Shamar Elkins' troubling Facebook posts resurface after mass shooting

Elkins was fatally shot after the mass murder during a high-speed pursuit by law enforcement officers. While the suspect is no longer available to describe his mental state behind the killing, his social media posts in the days leading up to the tragedy suggest marital woes and a disturbed mental state.

Elkins appeared more active on Facebook in the days leading up to April 19, 2026, as he frequently posted about his children and family life. One of his final posts has left the public scarred, where he can be seen spending time with his eldest daughter, Sariahh Snow, 11. The post was casually captioned that they were on a "1 on 1 date." Just hours later, Sariahh was dead, allegedly at the hands of that same father.

Another post, shared just days earlier, has raised deeper concerns. In the post, seemingly a prayer, Elkins wrote about battling negative thoughts and asked God to "guard [his] mind" against the feelings of depression, anger, and anxiety. The post reads:

"Dear God, Today I ask You to help me guard my mind and my emotions. When negativity arises, remind me to say, ‘It does not belong to me, in the name of Jesus. When depression tries to settle in, when anger rises, when anxiety or panic comes, give me the awareness to recognize what is not from You and the strength to reject it immediately in the name of JESUS.

The post has since gone viral, with many questioning whether it hinted at underlying mental health struggles. With the investigation actively underway, the officials have not yet confirmed any mental health diagnosis.

Did Shamar Elkins have a strained marriage?

One of the surviving victims of the Louisiana shooter was Shamar Elkins' wife, Shaneiqua Elkins, who was married to him for a decade and lived a blended family life with four of her own children and three whom Elkins had with a second woman living nearby (also wounded in the shooting). In one of Elins' Facebook posts, he appears to have hinted at a possible relationship strain with Shaneiqua.

In the post, Elkin asked fellow fathers, "If you could go back in time and have kids with a different woman but still have the same kids, would you do it?" Some other posts also referred to some sort of message of emotional distress, where he asked god to guard his mind and emotions.

What makes the case even more unsettling is the contrast between Elkins’ online persona and the tragedy that unfolded. His profile was filled with photos of his children, including a recent Easter post featuring all seven of them.

What we know so far about the shooting incident

The investigators are still trying to paint a clear picture of the events, which might have led to the horrific tragedy. The two women who survived the mass shooting included Elkins' wife and the second woman with whom he shared his four children. According to Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux's statement to CNN, both women are in serious condition and were unable to provide a statement. After the initial attack, the suspect ran away, but police followed and confronted him, where he died during an encounter. According to Police Corporal Chris Bordelon's initial findings:

"Some of the children inside were his descendants. We do believe him to be the only individual who fired gunshots at these locations. It was a domestic disturbance."

Investigators are still piecing together the sequence of events and possible motives. It remains unclear whether Elkins died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or police fire during the chase.
