Alan Ritchson and Patrick Hughes spoke to ScreenRant about a possible sequel to War Machine on March 5, 2026. The duo said that they have an idea that goes beyond the main storyline of the movie. Moreover, it is expected to bring more adventures for the lead character, '81,' played by Alan Ritchson. Alan himself said that there are tons of things that can be explored, adding that “War Machines is going to be sick.”

Patrick even shared his opinion on what could happen in the future. Hughes recalled that when he started writing War Machine, he developed it as an idea of a standalone story. However, the filmmaker mentioned that he knows where he needs to take the plot in case he decides to make a sequel. Patrick added that he has figured out what he can do with the follow-up and continued:
“It’s impossible not to, as a writer, to think about. I fell in love with the character of 81, and the universe of sort of everything he’s going through. So look, if that call comes in, then yes, I’m ready to pull the trigger.”

As mentioned, Alan Ritchson plays '81' in War Machine. The character is considered unnamed, and the actor refused to reveal the real identity of the man while speaking to ScreenRant. However, he clarified that the makers know who is '81,' but the secret won’t be revealed. Alan claimed that people have to “stick around for the eight sequels” to know more. Patrick Hughes said in the same interview that he likes a story where a character does not have a name.
