However, his wife, Kavita Khanna, recently got candid about how she settled into the dynamics without overstepping any emotional boundaries.

Vinod Khanna married Geetanjali Khanna in 1971 and welcomed two beautiful boys, Rahul Khanna and Akshaye Khanna. While Akshaye went on to become a spectacular actor, paving his own path with intense roles that left audiences whistling, Rahul Khanna became a well-known VJ, model, and writer. Nonetheless, it's safe to say they both paved their own paths beautifully in the film industry.

However, Vinod and Geetanjali's marriage didn't fare as well and ended in 1985, a period marked by Vinod Khanna's growing involvement with spiritual leader, Osho. The actor soon after decided to step away from mainstream life and immerse himself in spiritual pursuits, which resulted in a separation that permanently altered the course of his family life.

Vinod Khanna married Kavita Khanna in 1990, and the couple went on to have two daughters, Sakshi and Shraddha Khanna. Now, in a candid conversation with Loveena Tandon, Kavita addressed her relationship with Vinod's sons, Akshaye and Rahul Khanna, from his first marriage with clarity and emotional intelligence. She shared that they were her children because of the actor. 

Kavita Khanna added, "they had to be mine, but they were not mine." Kavita explained what she meant by it and revealed that she had never tried to fill their mother's role. According to Kavita, Rahul and Akshaye already had "the best mother they could have," and she consciously chose not to intrude on that bond.

In the same conversation, Kavita got candid about her bond with Vinod's first wife, Geetanjali. She revealed that, contrary to the narratives often associated with fractured families, she had a respectful and uncomplicated relationship with Geetanjali. She emphasised that there was no bitterness between them, only clearly defined boundaries and mutual understanding. She was quoted as saying:

"We were very cordial. There was no discord whatsoever."

In an earlier interview with Mid-Day, Akshaye Khanna reflected on how deeply his father's spiritual withdrawal affected him as a child. Now enjoying the success of his latest film, Dhurandhar, Akshaye spoke candidly about the confusion he felt when Vinod Khanna chose renunciation. Describing the decision as life-altering and emotionally overwhelming, the actor stated:

"To not only leave his family, but to take sanyaas… as a five-year-old, it was impossible to understand it."
