Vijay Sethupati is one of the highly loved actors in the film industry. He enjoys a massive fanbase, and with each of his films, he sets newer trends of masculinity and heroism. On the work front, his film, Merry Christmas co-starring the gorgeous actress, Katrina Kaif, hit the theatres today on January 12, 2024, and fans are already soaking in the slow-burn romantic suspense thriller. Amid all these, Vijay opened up about the time when he had to depart from Aamir Khan's production film, Laal Singh Chaddha and was replaced by Naga Chaitanya.
Soon after Vijay Sethupathi exited from Aamir Khan's last released film, Laal Singh Chaddha, rumours were rife in the media clarifying reasons behind the former getting dropped from the same. Some mentioned that the reason behind the same was probably due to the film makers' decision to replace him with Naga Chaitanya. Many others claimed that Aamir had problems with Vijay's weight. Moreover, due to the same concern, the PK actor also asked Vijay to undergo a physical transformation. However, dismissing all such rumours, Vijay finally opened up about the same in an interview.

In an interview with the News Minute, Vijay shared that contrary to Aamir having weight-related concerns with him, the latter, in reality, showed an extremely humble attitude towards the former. Vijay mentioned how Aamir personally narrated the script to him. And expressing admiration for the storyline, Vijay mentioned that he too, had agreed to work with Aamir soon after listening it. Calling the rumours about Aamir asking him to undergo a physical transformation for the role, a misconception, Vijay revealed:
“Aamir sir personally offered me the role. He then flew down to Tamil Nadu, where I was shooting, to narrate the script to me. For some reason, the director, Advait Chandan, couldn’t come. Aamir sir came alone, narrated the script, stayed overnight in that town, and left the next morning. Such a big superstar with no airs. And he is a marvelous storyteller. The way he narrated the story was mesmerizing. I immediately said yes.”
Afterwards, in the same conversation, Vijay opened up about the unforeseen circumstances which led to his dispersal from Laal Singh Chadha. Vijay mentioned that it was his conflicting schedules with his then-ongoing five Telugu projects in various stages of production that led to his dispersal. Moreover, COVID-19 ransacked all their plans to shoot that year. He added:
“COVID happened. It ransacked all our plans. After the lockdown, I had five Telugu projects in various stages of production to complete. I just couldn’t accommodate Laal Singh Chaddha in my schedule.”
On December 12, 2022, Vijay took to his IG handle and shared a stunning picture of himself. In the mirror selfie, he looked handsome in a white shirt paired with white goggles and a watch. Sharing it, he attached a nerd face emoji in the caption. However, as soon as Vijay shared his picture, his fans got awestruck by his drastic weight loss and flooded the comment section. While some mentioned that their old Vijay with a fit body had returned, many others mentioned that it was a great changeover. A few of his fans also tweeted Vijay's new picture and talked about his body transformation.
