Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor were once the most loved celebrity couple in Bollywood. They met at his sister, Shweta Bachchan’s wedding, and soon, sparks flew between them. Soon, the two started dating, and the duo even managed to keep their relationship under wraps for five years.
In 2002, during Amitabh Bachchan's 60th birthday, Jaya Bachchan announced the happy news of Abhishek and Karisma’s engagement and also welcomed her to the Bachchan family. Jaya’s public announcement came as a surprise to many. While everyone waited for the much-in-love couple’s wedding, both families announced that the wedding was called off.

Though no one knows exactly what went wrong between the much-in-love couple, the sudden announcement made a lot of sensation. Till today, there is an evident awkwardness between the Bachchan clan and the Kapoors. While scrolling through our IG handle, we got our hands on an unseen video of Karisma and Abhishek’s love-filled moments.
In the video, Karisma was seen attending an event and greeting Abhishek’s sister, Shweta. On the other hand, lovestruck Abhishek couldn’t take his eyes off Karisma. The way Abhishek kept staring at Karisma was adorable, and she, too, can be seen blushing. The video was from the time when the duo was dating each other.

It was also rumoured that the real reason behind their sudden called-off wedding was because of Karisma's mother, Babita. It was reported that she wanted a stable and secure life for her daughters. Having undergone a tough phase after separation from Randhir Kapoor, Babita single-handedly raised her daughters, Karisma and Kareena Kapoor.
Another reason reported was the huge difference in Karisma and Abhishek's career graphs. She had already established herself as one of Bollywood's leading actresses, whereas he was nothing more than Amitabh Bachchan's son. The Bachchans, too, were undergoing huge financial losses, and to financially secure her daughter, Babita wanted a prenup to be signed, which was not accepted by Big B.
For the unversed, Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor’s sister, Kareena Kapoor, made their Bollywood debut with their film, Refugee in 2000 and shared a great friendship. After Karisma and Abhishek’s breakup, things turned bitter among both the families and it also affected Kareena’s bond with Abhishek. In a throwback interview with Simi Garewal on her show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, Kareena Kapoor opened up about her equation with Abhishek and stated:
"In my life, there's still room for Abhishek Bachchan, I just wish there is a little bit of room still left in his heart for me."

Post their breakup, Karisma Kapoor went on to marry Sanjay Kapur, a rich Delhi-based businessman on September 29, 2003. But they, too, parted ways and were granted the divorce in 2016. Karisma is now a single mother to her two kids, Samaira Kapoor and Kiaan Raj Kapoor. On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan is happily married to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and they have a lovely daughter, whom they have named Aaradhya Bachchan.
Two decades after their split, Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor are now happy in their respective lives.
