Twinkle Khanna tied the marital knot with the love of her life, Akshay Kumar, on January 17, 2001, in an intimate wedding. In a recent conversation with ace fashion designer, Masaba Gupta on her YouTube channel, Tweak India, the show’s host, Twinkle Khanna opened up about her mother, Dimple Kapadia’s reaction to her decision to marry Akshay Kumar. The doting daughter revealed that her mom clearly advised her to live with Akshay for two years before tying the knot. The actress admitted that her mother wanted her and Akshay to be more than 100% sure about their marriage decision. Recalling her mother’s advice, she said:
"When my husband said he wants to marry me, my mother said, ‘Nothing doing, you live together for two years. If you make it, then you get married'."
Further, in the same conversation, Twinkle Khanna also told Masaba Gupta that her mother, Dimple Kapadia’s advice about live-in directly referred to her mom’s unstable marriage with her father, Rajesh Khanna. The author also talked about the prospect of growing up in a household under the guidance of both a father and a mother. Sharing her thoughts about the same, Twinkle said:
"She (Dimple Kapadia) said, ‘I have been married. I’ve seen what it’s like’. I feel that maybe if my parents were together, would I really want to constantly keep working, doing something? I probably wouldn’t."

Twinkle Khanna also lauded her mother, Dimple Kapadia, for raising her single-handedly and balancing her personal and professional fronts. The author complimented her mommy for all the efforts and sacrifices she made while raising her. Twinkle also admitted that for most of her life, she wasn’t aware of the patriarchal system as she was raised alone by her mother, who distanced her from this system. She explained:
"I was raised largely by my mother. I would tell you that for the longest time I didn’t know that patriarchy and the patriarchal system existed because I wasn’t in the system."
The daughter of iconic actors, Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, Twinkle was in love with cinema right from an early age and even tried her hand at acting. However, after marrying Khiladi Kumar, Akshay Kumar, she bid farewell to her acting career and ventured into the writing world. The stunning couple has a son, Aarav Kumar, who was born in 2002 and a daughter named Nitara, who was born back in 2012.
