'Toy Story 5' Early Review, Animated Comedy Drama Film Leaves Fans 'Nostalgic'

Toy Story 5, the much-awaited animated film, is all set to hit the theatres soon. For the unversed, the fifth instalment of the Toy Story film series is scheduled to release in theatres on June 19, 2026. The ensemble voice cast features Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Conan O'Brien, Scarlett Spears, Greta Lee, Shelby Rabara, Mykal- Michelle Harris, and Craig Robinson. Toy Story 4 shows 'Woody', 'Buzz', and the other toys go on a road trip with 'Bonnie' and a new toy called 'Forky'. During this trip, 'Woody' gets separated from the group and meets an old friend, 'Bo Peep'. As they met after a long time, 'Woody' and 'Bo Peep' started to talk about their past. Soon, they realise that their lives and goals have changed. 'Bo Peep' enjoys being independent, while 'Woody' still believes a toy’s main purpose is to be there for a child.

Plotline of Toy Story 5

The story of Toy Story 5 kicks off right after the events of Toy Story 4. 'Woody' has left the kids’ rooms and is helping the lost toys find new homes. 'Jessie' is now running 'Bonnie's' room along with 'Buzz', who is serving as her deputy. 'Bonnie' is now 8 years old and is more focused on staying socially connected. Her parents buy her a tablet called Lily Pad. The device lets her chat with friends and play games. Thus, she spends less time with her toys. To solve the issue between 'Bonnie' and her toys, 'Woody' returns.

Fans of Toy Story are eagerly waiting for the upcoming film, Toy Story 5. A movie critic wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Watched Toy Story 5 and absolutely loved it. Making Jessie the protagonist was the best decision Pixar made with this movie. Andrew Stanton is ever so reliable and knows how to tell a story with humour and heart to make anyone melt. A film about human connections and fighting for it that feels more important than ever." Another film critic penned:

"I’m extremely delighted to report that they did it again. Toy Story 5 is another fantastic entry in the series. The handling of the toys vs tech conflict is impressively nuanced, but everything is beautifully balanced with the humour and heart that make these films very special. And it was refreshing to have a story anchored around Jessie. Have your tissues ready to go. My eyes were certainly not dry as Toy Story 5 went along. Feeling blessed to live in a time where we keep getting more Toy Story films and that they knock it out of the park every single time."

"#ToyStory5 review I came into this movie with high expectations because I am a massive Toy Story fan, and those expectations were reached. The movie starts slowly and builds up over time with emotional scenes mixed with humour and heartfelt moments. This movie is centred around Jessie and is a pivotal moment for her, and finally closes the book about her fear of abandonment. This movie captures the Toy Story essence that the 4th volume lacked, though I really liked the fourth instalment. This movie also has a great plot that hooks you up. The only bad thing is the lack of screen time for Buzz and Woody to resume this movie is heartbreaking yet beautiful film."
