She took to the Instagram handle and, in a lengthy post, slammed the business named Four Winds Craft Guild. After which the page was reported, but the store was unfazed by the whole stunt and chose to stick to their 'no influencer' rule.
Why did Paige Lorenze slam a local store?
Paige Lorenze took things personally when she saw a local business hanging the sign 'No influencer'. She decided to take things into her own hands and teach them a lesson and commented on one of their posts. She pointed out their ethos that they call themselves feminist but put up a sign stating no influencers.
She went on to ask why they are attempting to delegitimize things. The 28-year-old influencer went on to defend the whole influencer industry by taking things personally. She went on to claim that women play a major role in transforming the content-creating economy and turning social media platforms into successful businesses.
She even went on to claim that the business page was mocking women after they become powerful in a new industry is an old tactic. She called it strange that this is happening at a store which claims to celebrate a craft with a rich history of women in it. She highlighted that brands are spending billions of dollars on creator marketing as they know they can deliver better outputs which traditional advertising cannot. She wrote:
"If you call yourself a feminist but proudly put up a 'No Influencers' sign, it's worth asking who you are attempting to delegitimize, and why. Mocking women when they become powerful in a new industry isn't new. It's just a strange message coming from a store that celebrates a craft with such a rich history of women shaping the island and its economy."
Paige went on to claim that a woman with a loyal audience can launch a successful business that can scale. She concluded her note by writing:
"Brands have shifted billions of dollars into creator marketing because it consistently delivers something traditional advertising can't… trust, community, and measurable sales. One woman with a loyal audience can successfully launch a business at a scale that would have once required corporate backing and massive advertising budgets. That's a win. This sign isn't."
What did the store say?
After Paige's strong message on the internet, the local store, Four Winds Craft Guild, decided to speak up as their Instagram post was reported. While the post was deleted, they made a reaction in their own casual way. Taking to their Instagram story, they hit back by writing:
"Imagine being so bored with life that you spend your pastime trying to report a photo on IG that makes you feel uncomfortable."
They also re-shared a picture of their 'No Influencers' sign with their 12.4k followers. They shared another Instagram story with the same 'No Influencers' sign and with a chat, which read:
"Check your email. The drama, check who reported it as a copyright infringement."
For those who don't know, the store Four Winds Craft Guild has operated since 1948 in Nantucket, Massachusetts. It was opened by the Sylvia family and has been in the business of buying and selling authentic arts as per their official website. They also specialize in selling hand-crafted baskets, purses, local artwork and carvings.
