Ever since we are born, we have that inherent attachment to our mothers, something that we often term as ‘unconditional love’. Quite a renowned face in the Pakistani film industry, Mahira Khan had made quite a name for herself in Bollywood too, with her first film, Raaes opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Hardly had we hoped to see more of her when Pakistani stars were banned from working in India. And then came regular updates of Mahira on her Instagram handle, which quenched our desire to see this beautiful star, every now and then. And thus came her post a while back, which surely made us want to go back in time and catch glimpses from the pages of our long lost golden history.
Mahira Khan posted a one-of-a-kind picture, wherein she was donned in an all-red avatar, probably dressed as a bride from her teenage days and had looked stunning! However, what was noteworthy was her mom’s sleek and beautiful matha-patti, which the actress still dons. Sharing the picture, Mahira wrote, “Laal aur mera purana rishta hai P.S I think I’m 12 -13 yrs old in this photo. It was International Women’s Day on March 08, 2019, and Mahira Khan once again took to Instagram and had posted a childhood picture of her, wrapped in her mommy’s arms, with a heartfelt caption. The same could be read as, “Here is a picture of my Ama from the day that I was born. She has had rheumatoid arthritis for the last 30 years. She’s been in pain ever since. Despite that, she has worked as a teacher most of her life. Raised me and my brother, while running our home. She has trouble doing normal day to day things now - like walking, taking a bath or even making her own hair.”
Mahira Khan’s note concluded with, “Now here’s the thing - she smiles through it all. She is always grateful. Always thanking God for little things. She keeps telling us ‘tender mercies’ is what one must be grateful for. She enjoys her tea and makhan toast like no other. And even though she can’t dance, she doesn’t miss a chance to groove to the music she loves. Today and every single day I want to be like her. While keep going all ‘awww’ over her caption, here are some updates about Mahira Khan’s personal life. The former VJ was earlier married to a man named Ali Askari from the year, 2007 to 2015. Post their divorce, Mahira got the custody of their little munchkin, Azlaan. However, recent reports suggested that Mahira has gotten engaged to a Pakistani entrepreneur, Salim Karim. A few pictures of the duo were also doing the rounds on the internet but a Dawn report suggested that all engagement rumours of Mahira with Salim are false and that she was only attending a friend's wedding in Turkey.
While in India, a few pictures of Mahira Khan smoking with Ranbir Kapoor had gone viral on the internet. And thus began people's speculation that the duo must be dating. Refuting all such rumours, Ranbir had shared, “I've gotten to know Mahira in a personal capacity over the last few months. She is somebody who I admire and respect, for her achievements and even more for the person she is. It is very unfair the way she is being judged and spoken about. What is also sad is the inequality in judgement just because she is a woman. I request you to stop the negativity and move on with your beautiful god gifted lives. Mahira Khan too, had a strong view on her linkup rumours with Ranbir Kapoor and had added, “I'm a very strong woman but when all of this happened, I was completely shattered and broken. I would think about posting a statement every day. Then I would stop myself because I just wouldn't know what to say." In yet another interview with Something Haute, Mahira had shared, “People ask me if I'm a good role model for my fans, and my response to that is that yes, I am a role model but I'm not the perfect role model. I am human, I make mistakes. And I was really happy to see that there were so many people who stood up for me. It goes to show that the narrative in Pakistan is changing, and if nothing else, I'm happy to have been part of that narrative."
Mahira Khan had also added, “Thankfully, 'Power Di Game' was ready to be released, which I thought was perfect timing, so I just posted that as sort of a response to the trolls. But to be honest, I understand where all the criticism came from and it didn't come from a place of hate. I'm not talking about the trolls but those who were genuinely disappointed to see those pictures. It's the same disappointment that my nani or my mamoo would have felt seeing that.
