The Pitt is back with the new season, and episode one, which is titled 7 A.M premiered on January 8, 2026. Season 2 will consist of a total of 15 episodes and will be available on HBO Max. For the unversed, The Pitt 2 will also follow an hour-by-hour shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Centre (PTMC). Season 2's first episode showed a 10-month jump from Season 1's last episode, which means it's a new academic year for the residential and medical students, with certain characters being promoted, and some new characters arriving. So, what happened in episode 1 of The Pitt 2? Let's have a look!
Most of the cast from Season 1 is back, and they will be sharing the screen with a few faces, such as 'Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi' played by Sepideh Moafi. Some other new faces are third-year medical student 'Joy Kwon' played by Irene Choi, and fourth-year medical student 'James Ogilvie', essayed by Lucas Iverson, along with a new nurse 'Emma', whose role will be played by Laetitia Hollard.

The first episode began with 'Dr. Robby' riding his motorcycle to work. With 'Dr. Robby, entering the hospital as an unhoused man, was seen saying that he needs his cast off. Well, 'Dr. Robby's eyes were placed on a plaque that commemorates the PTMC staff member for the service following the mass shooting, which was shown in the last season, instantly drawing a flashback of the traumatic past. Following this, the doctors discussed the duties, which were intended to give the viewers a glimpse of the tight work culture and seriousness of the ER.

On the other hand, 'Dr. Langdon' returns after his stint in rehab, following his addictions. Well, he found himself being assigned to triage and not in medical duties, and it shows that 'Dr. Robby' is clearly not over the betrayal of 'Langdon'. 'Langdon' meets 'Louie', his patient from the last season, whose medicine he had stolen. An apologise from 'Dr. Langdon's part could be seen in the episode of The Pitt 2.

Another character, nurse, 'Dana', returns after quitting at the end of season 1. Well, now she is seen training the new nurse, 'Emma', a nursing graduate from Northern Michigan. 'Dana' gives 'Emma' an overview of the work in the ER, while revealing the secret code for danger, 'Hula Hoop', and adding that she needs to be smart and always protect herself and her fellow nurses. Now, with 'Emma' learning from 'Dana', it is a way for the latter to remember why she took the job of being a nurse in the first place. So, the further episodes might build something on this newly emotional tie that 'Dana' is forming with taking 'Emma' under her wing.

'Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi' is in the ER to cover for 'Dr. Robby, who is going to be on a three-month sabbatical at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. 'Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi' comes from the Veterans Affairs Hospital and has some acquaintances with the past staff members. 'Dr. Robby' is annoyed with 'AI-Hashimi' replacing him, and it got even triggered when he found out that she, who is a big AI fan, made some changes in the system.

The crew got their first patient, with a kitchen knife on his chest, and it caused a clash between 'Hashimi' and 'Robby' over the management. Also, 'Hashimi' doesn't want the ER to be known as 'pitt' as she thinks it subconsciously affects those who work here.
Episode 1 of The Pitt 2 shows new cases, beginning with 'Ethan' (an old man)'s demise. His wife, a patient of Alzheimer's, was also brought to the ER. Other patients are a 9-year-old injured girl, a young man named 'Liam', who got injured by falling off the bike. The most serious case, which was shown, was a baby being found, whose age should be analysed, because under 28 days is a 'Safe Heaven' drop, and if it's over 28 days, it's a crime or child abandonment. As the baby is being treated, 'AI-Hashimi' finds herself being emotionally shut, where the episode ends.
