The Odyssey’s worldwide box office number is big despite a drop on Monday
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey saw the expected weekday dip on its fourth day, but still stayed solid at the box office. The epic has now pushed its worldwide collection to around Rs. 2,700 crore.
In India, the film added an estimated Rs. 8.35 crore net on Monday. That brings its four-day India nett total to Rs. 69.65 crore. With GST included, the India gross is at Rs. 83.14 crore. Overseas numbers. remain the big driver, with nearly Rs. 1,400 crore coming from international markets. The Monday drop stood at 61.9% compared to Sunday, which is typical after a big opening weekend.
The film had started with Rs. 17.40 crore nett on Friday, followed by Rs. 22 crore on Saturday and Rs. 21.90 crore on Sunday. With a Day 1 gross of Rs. 20.76 crore in India, The Odyssey has also set a new opening benchmark for Nolan in the country, beating his previous best. The numbers point to strong pre-release buzz for the historical drama.
The English version has led The Odyssey’s performance in India so far. Of the estimated Rs. 83.14 crore gross collected in the country, about Rs. 66.18 crore has reportedly come from the English version alone.
That’s close to 80% of the total India gross. The dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu have added roughly Rs. 16.96 crore gross combined. The split suggests that Nolan’s audience in India still leans heavily toward the original language, with a noticeable preference for premium screens and formats.
The Odyssey is also doing well in the UK and Ireland
While The Odyssey has created records in the United States and India, it is also doing well in the UK and Ireland. As per the latest reports, the movie took over the top spot in both places with a huge opening weekend of USD 16.8 million.
The debut marks Christopher Nolan’s second biggest opening weekend in the region, and it finished well ahead of Oppenheimer. The film was boosted by record demand in premium large formats. It also delivered the biggest opening Friday of the year and stands as Universal’s fifth biggest opening Friday ever in the market.
The BFI IMAX, the UK’s largest screen, posted its biggest three-day opening weekend ever. The single venue earned USD 294,249 over the weekend. That broke the previous BFI IMAX record of USD 289,682 set by Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 2017. Oppenheimer is currently third at that venue with USD 277,936.
So far, the London IMAX alone has recorded more than 82,000 admissions and USD 2.9 million in ticket sales. It is running at 94% occupancy and has had 173 straight sold-out shows. With that, it is now the venue’s third-highest-grossing title of all time.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is adapted from an ancient Greek poem of the same name by Homer. It features Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and many others in the lead roles.
