Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleChristopher Nolan's much-anticipated movie, The Odyssey, has been grabbing attention ever since it was announced. An adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek epic Odyssey, Nolan's movie features a stellar cast, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya. Nolan and his wife, Emma, produced the film through their production company, Syncopy. It's up for a worldwide release on July 17, 2026.
The movie, in its opening weekend, made USD 90-100 million in pre-sales, reportedly raising USD 200 million globally. While the excitement is already up, Christopher Nolan's film sparked a debate online, which is not specifically surrounding the movie, but technicalities. Ahead of the release, let's have a look at the massive budget of the film, along with the salaries of the stars, which have not been confirmed but are estimated.
The Odyssey sparks a massive debate ahead of its release
While Christopher Nolan began to write the screenplay of The Odyssey in March 2024, he has had the idea for the last 20 years. Speaking to Total Film, Nolan said that the idea of another movie, Troy, which he was about to direct in 2004, never left him.
For the unversed, the filmmaker was in talks to direct the 2004 movie, Troy, based on Homer's Iliad, which later returned to Wolfgang Petersen. Later, a movie was made featuring Brad Pitt, and Nolan went on to direct the movie, Batman Begins. Coming back to the present, The Odyssey has been in the talks for a long time now, and the moviegoers are eagerly waiting to witness Nolan's master project on screen.

However, ahead of the release, a debate began as The Odyssey was shot on IMAX film cameras, which means if someone wants to watch the movie in the same way that Nolan intended to, they have to watch the movie on an IMAX 70MM Projector. While this is the case, only 40-41 theatres worldwide have an IMAX 70MM Projector. It means that, for those who will experience the movie on a common screen, there will be chances for the movie to be cropped. Thus, a huge debate is up on social media about the kind of experience it will provide from the more common screens, leading them to tag it as 'cultural limitation'.
Massive budget of The Odyssey and estimated salary of the cast
The Odyssey is a massive project and may be one of Christopher Nolan's most ambitious artistic ones. Nolan has mentioned that his Oscar-winning project, Oppenheimer, gave him a space to cash his blank check for his much-anticipated movie, The Odyssey. If the reports are to be believed, The Odyssey has a budget of USD 250 million.

While not confirmed, according to a report on Flick on Click, Matt Damon has reportedly been paid USD 15 million for his role in the movie, where he is the lead, starring as 'King Odysseus' of Ithaca. Tom Holland will be seen as 'Telemachus,' and reportedly, he was paid USD 10 million. Other actors like Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Zendaya were reportedly paid something around USD 5-7 million. Other supporting actors and actresses' salaries for the movie have been said to be around USD 1-2 million, and the list includes Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Mia Goth, and Elliot Page.
