The Kissing Booth: Jacob Elordi Ridicules The Films While His Co-Star And Ex, Joey King Stood Proud

The Australian actor, Jacob Elordi became a household name with his role as ‘Noah Flynn’ in the immensely popular Netflix trilogy, The Kissing Booth (TKB). Since then, the handsome Hollywood hunk has starred in a few other fans' favourite popular content, such as Euphoria, 2 Hearts, and more recently in the biographical drama film, Priscilla.

The 26-year-old Aussie star did an interview with GQ and bared his heart out to the outlet regarding his fame, responding to the claims that he is pretentious and also talked about how he did not like The Kissing Booth films, which shot him to fame, among others.

Jacob Elordi never wanted to be a part of films like The Kissing Booth trilogy

Jacob Elordi got his breakthrough with the film, The Kissing Booth, which was released in 2018. Even though the film made him and his co-star, Joey King, one of the most loved on-screen couples, Jacob never wanted to do a film like that. He said:

“I didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies. Those movies are ridiculous. They’re not universal. They’re an escape.”

He further divulged that he needed a job and took up The Kissing Booth project. The interviewer further asked Jacob if choosing the movies was a ‘one for them, one for me’ thought process, to which he replied:

“That one’s a trap as well. Because it can become 15 for them, none for you. You have no original ideas, and you’re dead inside. So, it’s a fine dance. My ‘one for them,’ I’ve done it.”

Joey King never regretted playing a part in The Kissing Booth films

The Kissing Booth trilogy was highly popular with Netflix viewers but received negative reviews from film critics. The first film has a 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the two sequels fared slightly better with 27% and 25% ratings, respectively. Despite the criticism, previously in an interview with The Independent, Jacob Elordi’s love interest in the TKB trilogy and his real-life ex, Joey King, differed from his opinion. She proudly mentioned in the interview that she would never regret choosing those movies. Joey said:

“I couldn’t be prouder of those movies. I loved them so much, and playing that character made me happy. I’ll never regret those movies, and I love them so much no matter what anyone says.”

Jacob Elordi mentioned that he never wants to do a superhero role as they make him restless

In the same GQ interview, Jacob Elordi shared that he declined an invitation to audition for the role of ‘Superman’. Although the 26-year-old actor did not specify the movie he was referring to, it is highly likely that he was talking about James Gunn's upcoming superhero film, Superman: Legacy, which underwent casting recently. He stated that he is not interested in taking on a superhero role at the moment. Jacob said:

“Not particularly, no. I’ve always been told to give a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!’ And obviously, anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies. Well, they asked me to read for Superman. That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”

Jacob Elordi slams people who call him pretentious

During the interview, Jacob expressed his frustration about being told to be grateful for the work he had been doing and being called pretentious. He said:

“How is caring about your output pretentious? But not caring, and knowingly feeding people shit, knowing that you’re making money off of people’s time, which is literally the most valuable thing that they have. How is that the cool thing?”
