The pair’s separation specifically created headlines, considering that their individual careers were trending for various reasons for all these years. The former couple’s divorce reports had initially emerged in 2020, when Kanye West said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he was planning to get a divorce from Kim Kardashian.
Despite getting divorced, Kim and Kanye shared a close friendship, which was revealed by an insider in 2021. The source said that it was necessary for them since they were not planning to reconcile. The insider even claimed that Kim Kardashian had already accepted a lunch invitation from Kanye West since they were in a position where they could go out together and didn’t share any “hard feelings” for each other. Back on October 15, 2025, Kim Kardashian appeared in an episode of the podcast, Call Her Daddy, speaking up on the circumstances leading to her divorce from Kanye West. Kim said during the interview that she was unable to deal with a lot of things, including a situation where an individual had negative things to say about her mother and other family members. Kim said that no couple can remain together forever in such cases.

Furthermore, Kim Kardashian recalled an incident involving Kanye West in the conversation. For the unversed, Kanye revealed in 2016 that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Kim said on Call Her Daddy that Kanye had a mental health episode on one occasion, where the rapper reportedly gave all of the cars that he owned. Kim claimed that this happened multiple times over the years.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had four children when they were married. In 2013, the duo welcomed their eldest child, North West. This was followed by three more children, Saint West, Chicago West, and Psalm West, born between 2015 and 2019. During her appearance on Call Her Daddy, Kim Kardashian said that she aimed to set a good example for the four kids, elaborating that in case she suffers from any kind of mental health problem, there needs to be someone who can be a good parent to the children.

Kim and her family are mostly known for their appearances on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Back in 2021, unaired footage from the show featured Kim getting emotional when she spoke to her sisters about being married to Kanye West. Kim Kardashian claimed in the clip that Kanye West entered a different state every year. However, she even clarified that Kanye was doing a great job as a father, adding that West deserved to be with someone who could support him in any situation by following him everywhere.

While speaking in the finale of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim said that she did not want a person who lived in a different state for most of the time. In another conversation, Kim stated that she has always tried to do things that keep others happy. The reality star added that she eventually decided to do the same for herself at one point, which also brought some changes, leading to her divorce. However, she mentioned that it was necessary to be honest about the things that kept her satisfied.
Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West in February 2021. A month before the divorce news emerged, an insider said that Kim and Kanye were “not on the same page” in terms of spending the future with each other. The insider said that Kim wishes to stay in Los Angeles and give the best life to her children. Around a year after Kim filed for divorce, it was settled in court, with the legal documents saying that both parties would speak to each other before making any decision for the children. Furthermore, Kanye West was reportedly supposed to pay child support of USD 200,000. Apart from this, the legal documents allegedly claimed that expenses needed for the kids' education and security would be shared by both parties.
