'The Early Spring' Ending Explained, Do 'Luke' And 'Flora' End Up Together? Will There Be Season 2?

The Chinese series is based on the relationship between 'Shang Zhitao,' also known as 'Flora', and her boss, 'Luan Nian,' better known as 'Luke.' They fall in love while facing dilemmas over ambition and personal growth. Since the finale of the show has already been released on Netflix, fans are keen to know if the couple eventually found their way to each other.
'Flora' and 'Luke's' relationship floats between career and heartbreak
The Early Spring focuses on the story of 'Flora', a dedicated young woman. She moved to the Chinese capital, Beijing, to make a career in advertising. At her office, she comes across 'Luke,' a smart but emotionally distant creative director. His tough demeanor often causes conflicts between him and 'Flora's' optimistic personality.
As the story moves on, they fall in love but keep it private. Meanwhile, their bond is frequently tested by workplace pressures, misunderstandings, and personal insecurities. Gradually, their romance becomes more about healing and self-discovery. Specifically, 'Flora' learns how to love 'Luke' without losing herself and her dreams.
However, things take a sharp turn after 'Flora' decides to leave Lime Advertising after a significant professional injustice. Despite working hard at the company for six years, she feels overlooked and returns to her hometown of Harbin to restart her life. In turn, she puts her relationship with 'Luke' behind her.
After leaving 'Flora' focuses on building a new life and starting her management company. But 'Luke' is unable to get over the impact of their breakup. He is no longer like his confident and controlling self that audiences saw at the beginning of the show. Instead, he changed his ways and does not force himself back into 'Flora's' life. 'Luke' quietly supports her from a distance. He even uses his industry contacts to help her business without letting her know.
Eventually, 'Luke' and 'Flora' meet again through work. However, unlike earlier, he approaches her with patience and understanding. In a heart-touching scene, 'Luke' even offers to work for 'Flora' in any role, even as a driver, to prove he has grown and become serious about rebuilding their relationship.
The finale brings exactly what the audience hoped for. 'Luke' makes a special "Museum of Time and Eternity'. It is a personalized exhibition filled with their memories, and milestones. The museum shows a reflection of everything from how they met, made mistakes, fell in love, grew, and experienced heartbreak before finally finding their way together.
One of the most meaningful scenes comes when 'Luke' gives 'Flora' a necklace with a letter 'L's typewriter key. It symbolizes their first meeting when she accidentally knocked over his typewriter and later found the missing key. Lastly, 'Luke' finally proposes to 'Flora,' in front of their friends and family. She accepts his ring, giving fans an ideal happy ending that they hoped for. The end scenes show the couple balancing their career and personal lives as equals.
Will there be The Early Spring Season 2?
Until now, there are no official plans for the sequel season of The Early Spring. For those who do not know, the series is based on the novel Zao Chun Qing Lang by Gu Niang Bie Ku. It tells the complete story and ends with 'Flora' and 'Luke's' engagement. Since the source material is a standalone with no larger series, the story is unlikely to move forward.
However, fans don't need to lose hope. The same author has written another novel, Miss Talkative. It is based on the story of 'Lumi' and 'Will,' who were supporting characters in The Early Spring. So, a speculation has started whether the series would get a potential spin-off in the future.
About The Early Spring
The Early Spring features Jing Boran as 'Luke' and Sun Qian as 'Flora'. The romantic drama been a global hit after its release on Netflix due to its realistic workplace setting and emotionally flawed and layered characters.
It was filmed across Beijing and Harbin in 2025, focusing on their corporate drama in one and personal growth in the other. Although 'Luke' and 'Flora' had a messy journey, their message about the importance of forgiveness and timing has resonated with people across the world.
