Ted Lasso has been one of the most successful sports comedy shows over the years. It first aired on Apple TV+ in 2020, featuring Jason Sudeikis playing the lead role along with many other popular faces in the supporting cast. After a long wait of around three years, the fourth season of the series has finally arrived on August 5, 2026.

It continues from where Season 3 ended, with ‘Ted’ leaving England to pursue something else. While the situation has changed for him now, the circumstances take him back to the place where he was an expert. With only one episode released so far, keep reading to know what happens in the end.

‘Ted Lasso’ returns to England for certain reasons

Ted Lasso

The fourth season shows ‘Ted Lasso’ settled as a salesman at a supermarket. While he has left Richmond, it is evident that he still wants to continue doing the thing that he has done for all these years. Coming to his personal life, things are normal, and his son ‘Henry’ is supposed to finish his graduation. But ‘Ted’s’ family members, including his wife, ‘Michelle,’ realise that something is missing in his life.

It seems like ‘Ted’s’ return to England was his destiny as ‘Rebecca,’ ‘Higgins,’ and ‘Keeley’ come to meet him in Kansas. ‘Ted’ is happy as the trio tells him to train the Greyhound women. Apart from going back to his field of expertise, ‘Ted’ has a chance to meet the people he has known for a long time. There is no reason for him to reject the offer.

Although ‘Ted’ preferred to be with his family for most of the time, he decided to return to England. Things are not the same this time, as ‘Ted’s’ mother also supports his decision, as she is well aware of the fact that her son is not satisfied with what he is doing after coming to the United States. There is also a twist where ‘Ted’ opts to bring his mother and son to London with ‘Michelle.’ While ‘Michelle’ agrees, it is revealed that ‘Henry’ was the one behind the plan.

‘Ted’ is undoubtedly happy for a lot of reasons. His family is going to support him while he takes on another responsibility. Now, the upcoming episodes will reveal whether he is going to be successful or not.

Jason Sudeikis reveals how the premise of Ted Lasso Season 4 was formed

Ted Lasso

Shortly before the premiere of Ted Lasso Season 4 on Apple TV+, Jason Sudeikis shared the details about how the latest instalment was planned. He said in an interview that it was about giving himself something meaningful to hold onto. He said that it was like filling up a big “cup of ideas.”

The real turning point came when he decided to share it. He brought the idea to co-creators Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly, then to the writers, and eventually to a pre-production retreat. He did that before anything was finalised, just to check if it would work as expected.

But he wasn’t fully confident. He admitted he still struggled with self-doubt and with the question of whether revisiting the show was the right move. He had to work through that on his own first. And once the group said yes, he felt a responsibility not to disappoint them. That’s what pushed them to go ahead. The final idea was developed as ‘Rebecca,’ ‘Keeley,’ and ‘Higgins’ going to Kansas with a proposal, while ‘Ted,’ who spent three seasons telling everyone else to be brave, has to figure out if he’s finally doing something for himself. He explained the same and said:

"The premise was: What if you had The Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and Scarecrow, go to Kansas to bring Dorothy back to Oz? But he’s still wrestling with doing something for himself. If it feels like he’s doing it for other people, though, then he’s more inclined to do it."
